Sounds kinda counter intuitive, eh ?
Why buy Cordo without that deep dull bloody Reddy glow ?
- Some will like it, some will not.
Rather pleased with my recent vintage Alden G.I's...
Yes, they look like PVC.
That's kinda the fun.
?
The Alden Patent Leather line. They shine up nice. Now get yer gig line straight private!!!
I like it. A nice waxiness and depth to the finish.
I treated myself to my first pair of cordovan shoes last year on holiday in the US, a pair of AE Macneils that were discounted in their shop sale. I proudly wore them into work one day recently and was treated to the old 'never wear brown in town' routine by a colleague. 'They're not brown' says I, 'they're burgundy and in fact they're made out of a special leather that comes off a dead horses ass'....he just looked at me,stirred his coffee and changed the subject, which illustrates the point that you need to wear clothes for your own satisfaction not anyone else's. So to return to the OP; why wear black cordovan when no one else who is normal will notice any difference? I guess it comes down to comfort, quality, longevity and knowing about the horses ass.
Alden black cordovan is a thing of beauty.
I recently picked up a pair of black cordovan imperials from the bay. I too was a little worried about the colour, but they look great and I could not be more chuffed about them.
Grey cordovan is a big look this season. Ideally with a large Velcro strap across the top.
Cole Haan did a Grey loafer in the '80s... I had to bring in a copy of US GQ until Ivy Ian Strachan would believe me...
"grey shoes"… perhaps the ultimate Ivy put-down, along with "gangster shoulders" from the mouths of Messrs Strachan and Simons back in the day?
They were indeed both anathema.
But this you know, for you were there.
I have been tempted - and resisted, thank god.
