Thanks, Yuca! Tu español es bueno también.
Well, I have to explain my opinion better. I think only spanish mods and fashionistas know the term Ivy, and there isn't a real Ivy scene or Ivy shop in Madrid. First Brooks Brothers store was opened last year (there was an outlet store on the outskirts). However, it's true the Ivy influence in spanish classic style. I mean, common people don't know Ivy but in fact they are wearing ivy items. My father is a good example of this. He doesn't know what thing is Ivy, but you can see him in winter wearing a herringbone jacket, blue shirt with spread collar, repp tie, flannels not pleated and tassel loafers. Or in summer with beige pants (no khakis), penny loafers, surcingle belt, polo shirt and navy blazer.
I think this influence started in 60s, maybe like a kind of continental Ivy. In 80s the spanish posh (or ‘pijo’) style was definitely based in casual preppy (Ralph Lauren is a sacred brand since that). And nowadays there is a certain influence of Ivy in some cheap stores. You can buy knit ties and saddle shoes in Zara, or a seersucker jacket and a madras shirt (or similar) in Mango, while El Ganso was obsessed in the beginning with Thom Browne.
The fashionist area is no my thing.....but they know Ivy, of course, and mix it with italian and british clothes http://foro.sinabrochar.com/sastrerias-y-camiserias/5455-sastreria-italiana-sastreria-inglesa.html
Man 1924 has really beautiful clothes. The owner is a friend of Scott Schuman (http://www.thesartorialist.com/tag/carlos-castillo/) and all that jazz.....

The Man 1924 jackets look good to me, natural shoulder coolness, but damn expensive!
Haven't seen their ties, I will sometimes purchase a large width tie if the material and pattern is exceptional and then I will wear in the winter beneath a v-neck jumper so that the kipper portion is not shown. It works.
Spanish are very elegant peoples, and Spanish tailoring is fine and very similiar to North Italy and Sicilian tailoring (more structurate than Neapolitan ,but more soft than Saville Row).
In 50s and 60s Spanish were very well dressed,in a style modern but classic and elegant.
But i don't thiink that are much Ivysts in Spain ,then or now.

Hahahaha. "?Donde estan mis cerdos?" I know one thing, that little one wore me down. I was tore down, almost level with the ground.
Thanks for typing that n+tilde so I could copy and paste it into my original post. Actually, I think the above question needs tildes too. I can't do tildes with this keyboard. Or I just don't know how.
¿Dónde están mis cerdos?
That was my understanding too, a near third-world existence.

And Chester Himes moved there from France in 1969.
