Inspirational Ivy Quote of the Day

"The person who succeeds in anything has the realistic viewpoint at the beginning in knowing that the problem is large and that he has to take it a step at a time and he has to enjoy this step by step learning procedure. It’s better to do something simple that is real. It’s something you can build on. because you know what you’re doing. Whereas, if you try to approximate something very advanced and don’t know what you’re doing, you can’t build on it.

No matter how far I might diverge or find freedom in this format, it only is free insofar that it has reference to the strictness of the original form. That’s what gives it its strength."

- Bill Evans

I can only offer up this today:

“Oh man sometimes I wake up feel like a cat runover.
Are you familiar with the stoical aspects of hard drinking, of heavy drinking? Oh it's heavy. Oh it's hard. It isn't easy. Jesus, I never meant me any harm. All I wanted was a good time.”

Re: Inspirational Ivy Quote of the Day

There is something self-destructive about Western technology and distribution.  Whenever any consumer object is so excellent that it attracts a devoted following, some of the slide rule and computer types come in on their twinkle toes and take over the store, and in a trice they figure out just how far they can cut quality and still increase the market penetration.
Their reasoning is that it is idiotic to make and sell a hundred thousand units of something and make a profit of thirty cents a unit, when you can increase the advertising, sell five million units, and make a nickel profit a unit.  Thus the very good things of the world go down the drain, from honest turkey to honest eggs to honest tomatoes.  And gin.

“Style is the answer to everything.
A fresh way to approach a dull or dangerous thing
To do a dull thing with style is preferable to doing a dangerous thing without it
To do a dangerous thing with style is what I call art"

You need a flannel suit and a slim knit tie
A hopsack blazer and now you’re really gettin’ by

It’s a stubborn look, just won’t go out of style

Re: Inspirational Ivy Quote of the Day

"Hail to thee old Ivy League
Poison Ivy League

The ra-ra boys are sitting 'round the table tonight
The ra-ra boys have lots of plans in view
They're gonna have panty raids and make their own lemonade
They'll live it up just like the big boys do

Poison Ivy League, boys in that Ivy League
Give me an itch, those sons of the rich
That Poison Ivy League

The ra-ra boys will go to bed so early tonight
Before exams they need a lot of rest
They gotta make good for dad, they gotta make good so bad
They'll even pay someone to take that test

Poison Ivy League, boys in that Ivy League
How can they flunk, they're so full of bunk
That Poison Ivy League

The ra-ra boys are being groomed for business some day
For better things to college they were sent
And you can bet they'll be the head of the company
As long as dear old daddy's president

Poison Ivy League, boys in that Ivy League
So loaded with cash, they give me a rash
That Poison Ivy League

So let it be told
I won't touch them with a ten foot pole
That Poison Ivy League"

As sung by Elvis Presley
