Re: Barcuta!

Unionmade have some good deals here on 'Barracuda' (oh I wonder where they got the idea for that name) harringtons by Golden Bear. More of a G4 cut to them, which I am leaning more towards these days, with some nice colours. Does anyone have knowledge of the Barracuda jackets?

https://unionmadegoods.com/brands/golden-bear/?posts_per_page=96

Also some pretty cool Beams stuff heavily reduced elsewhere on the site.

Re: Barcuta!

This is a Baracuta thread and not a Harrington thread - But the ORIGINAL 'Harringtons' were not Baracutas - They were North London Copies...

A point of some interest to those with some interest. Perhaps.

Re: Barcuta!

Some nice stuff on the Unionmade link (as usual !) - very taken with the Barracuda jackets in Khaki, Red and Olive - now all I need is a US proxy and the $600+ hmm - also like the Patagonia Torrentshell in Turkish Red ..... alas, having just had my car written off outside my house - practicalities will have to come first .... bollocks ! sad

I'm with Harpo, the new Baracuta G9 is crap. They're cut all wrong, way to fitted.

Re: Barcuta!

Are the new Baracuta Harringtons really that bad ? - I haven't see one in the flesh.

Will have to go to that store - looking carefully around the floor of course.

I know there's been some horrible mutations and they messed around with the dimensions and tripled the price somewhere along the line.....Hell what am I talking about - I've already listed three crimes against humanity ....  I may take a dump in there too

Re: Barcuta!

I have sold my Baracuta to my younger brother. He can pull it off as he is 22 and tall. I am 5'9'' and 35...the beige colour (tan) and the trad billow ages me something chronic...I look like an old short fat uncool dude in beige jacket...

Re: Barcuta!

Went into the new store today - horrific

At least now they're made out of recycled plastic bags there's a positive for the environment

There was a guy trying one on and the shop girl was telling him how much improved the fit was on the old shapeless ones

There were bits of shirt and jumper bulging out and the guy could hardly move his arms - he looked for me for some sort of brotherly "yeah that looks great" comment

I just said - "can you pass me a scrap of paper - I'm almost done over here"

Re: Barcuta!

Seemingly not content with just f**king up the G9 they've now
turned their attention to the G4 and have made a right bollock of that too.

If your after a classic fit 'harrington' now that's not gonna cost +£280,
it's probably JS (a good version of the G9), Orvis (they do a classic cotton and a suede version of the G9) and Grenfell do a G4ish 'golf' jacket.

Re: Barcuta!

Someone is currently selling some red, GoldenBear harringtons on the ebay (M, L, and XL available) for $150 with free shipping. I was tempted but I think they are slightly too short for me.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/171954028168?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=470849746358&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Getting a nice harrington is currently a priority for me. My issue is that I'm 6'2" and I don't believe anyone is currently making any Tall/Long sizes. Vintage Baracuta's do come in Longs, however based on all the measurements I've seen on eBay, they all measure shorter than today's OTR regulars.

After searching and considering options for awhile now, I'm pretty sure next month I'm going to bite the bullet and get a Luxire MTM. They offer a G4 style, which actually works better for me anyway, the way it hangs straight on the body. $300 is a lot for this type of jacket, but actually it's less than a new Baracuta and if the fit is 100% perfect it will be completely worth it to me.

http://custom.luxire.com/products/luxire-harrington-jacket

I do actually have a green Fred Perry size Large (in a G4 style with no elastic) right now that fits great, but some of the styling aspects aren't exactly what I want. If I were in the UK, it'd probably be considered a Chav jacket...but it works in the US having just a slight punk connotation, although many ppl here don't even have any idea at all about Fred Perry.

Re: Barcuta!

I've got one of the JS ones and like it - wear it a lot as a knockabout

Is it me or did the first batch of green ones look nicer than the second batch ?  (I looked in the shop the other day)

My old Baracuta is even nicer though - soft feel - great material -nice lining - great fit - doesn't seem to age - no pilling on the collars / cuffs
