Jokes aside, a quick search brought little in this direction — I take it that you are not after a bog standard Beret. (http://www.leberetfrancais.com/berets-pour-homme.html)

If you're still near that shop, you could always ask one of the staff and maybe peek inside the Beret to check for any label.

There are normally some berets kicking around in John Simons. I think they've been there since 1968.

To be honest, I either didn't look or can't remember looking (either way - I can't remember ) - to my untrained eye, the hat I'm after is more akin to the basque beret or perhaps, as alluded to by one of the other posters - more like a bakers hat, since it has a proper band. As opposed to the leather trim on the military style beret? As I said earlier, was meant to a canarian peasant/fisherman outfit - will try and dig out a pic of the sort of thing I mean.
