And so ... Define me an "Ivyist" ?

No wrong answers.

I'd just like an insight into it all.

Ta !

One that realizes the stylistic significance of that folded-over third button on their jacket and the soft nature of the shoulder, and they seek that out wherever they can because they love wearing it... for whatever reason.

Re: And so ... Define me an "Ivyist" ?

... It's worth playing with...

'Trad' could never define itself. 'Ivyists' have a chance to do so.

We know that Lee Harvey Oswald & The Boston Strangler have been judged 'Not Ivy', despite sometimes wearing the clothes. Lately JFK has been judged by Stan The Man as being 'Preppy' and not 'Ivy'...

Fair play.

William F. Buckley Jr. wore some nice 'Ivy', along with a load of other stuff. He fails, just like JFK, on the WASP front. 'Trads' claim him.

Miles Davis also fails the 'Ivyist' test  -  He wore a lot more than just 'Ivy'.

So wither the 'Ivyist' ?

  - These things interest me.

Best -

Re: And so ... Define me an "Ivyist" ?

Trad is just a sub-niche of current traditional American style and is a relative of Ivy Style (which I view as period specific). I consider myself trad as I wear many items that are not Ivy. I am sure this comment will win me lots of friends here.

Plenty of ivy wearers also class themselves as trads, or at least don't mind the term. For tribal reasons Jim has a compulsion to put trads down, but nobody else cares.

I dont subscribe to the term 'Ivyist' or any other if the truth be told.

The name didn't originate under Woofs term as a moderator either, its from the Jim era.

Traditional American style would just as easily describe most on here.

I would have thought.

I genuinely don't care how anyone else dresses... but that guy looks like an asshole.

He's definitely an asshole.
