I watch both of these at least once a week and have done for several years now.

There's a box set "Capsule Losing Contact" that contains everything Duster ever recorded -- which isn't that much.

It's music for an antihistamine hangover.

Re: 'Weird Sounds From The Way Out' Thread

I dug Liz Phair's "whitechocolatespaceegg" out of the stacks last week and gave it a spin in the car. It holds up well.

PS: It strikes me that if Liz could have resisted the urge to swear, a song like "Johnny Feelgood" would have been a hit or at least made it into radio rotation (it was released when radio was still a thing).

If the goal is to shock the bourgeoisie, all of whom swear constantly, then not swearing might be the way to go.

Little late to this party, but I've been listening to Built to Spill a lot. Sort of like Dinosaur Jr. but less repetitive and more fun.

Re: 'Weird Sounds From The Way Out' Thread

There's a 50th anniversary release of the Grateful Dead's "Aoxomoxoa" out.

First disc is the interesting one. It's got the original version of the album and the more familiar 1971 remix. I didn't know there was an original version.

This was the first Dead album I bought as a kid. So hearing the songs in looser arrangements is a lot of fun.

Disc two is live stuff from 1969, when the group was about as weird and way out as you can get and still get fannies in the seats. It's fine, sound is decent. But having spun it once I doubt I'll do it again except by chance.

I never did understand the Grateful Dead thing. Frankly, I never understood the Phish thing either. I suppose some people just dont hear certain notes.

^ You could frame the picture disc, stick it on the wall, and admire it while wearing a Champion sweatshirt.

I amend my earlier statement. The live disc of the Aoxomoxoa reissue is worth listening to more than once.

That's like the gym shirts we were issued in junior high, along with a pair of shorts, two pairs of Wigwam 625s and instructions to take it all home to be washed at least once a week. (The instruction was almost universally ignored, and the gaminess of the locker room was indescribable.)

Re: 'Weird Sounds From The Way Out' Thread

This is about the same length as the Miami Strip Club Super Bowl show and much more entertaining...if you can get past the pointless soprano sax toward the beginning

It's worth noting the drummer is wearing a monocle and has underwear on his head.

Re: 'Weird Sounds From The Way Out' Thread

About a year later there's a deluxe edition of "Workingman's Dead."

The regular disc is remastered etc. It sounds fine.

Two live discs from 1971 have the group minus drummer Mickey Hart. This is a minority opinion, but I like the Dead with one drummer (Bill Kreutzmann) much better than with two.

They get lost during "Easy Wind," and some of the other performances are a tad uneven.

Then they regroup and sound like nobody else. As usual.
