Great idea, McGeorge.

Here's the original:

And the (vastly superior) cover:

That's a revelation, ExpandingMan.  Sabs rule, though I actually rather like the Ansley Dunbar version too (which I'd never heard).

Re: Covered in glory

Totally loving this thread McG and ExM.

Not exactly a huge difference 'tween these first two versions,
but a great tune (from the soundtrack of a very poor Dean Martin movie of the same name),

Burt Bacharach - Something Big

Jim O'Rourke - Something Big

and then there's this ...
Mark Lindsay - Something Big (Stereo Single Version)

I never liked the Cure much — Yelp Rock

But I have to admit, "Friday I'm in Love" is a catchy tune. Covered just recently by Yo La Tengo

Similarly, Culture Club was always a bit much

But in the hands of the Violent Femmes, "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" sounds pretty damn good

Re: Covered in glory

Another triple header - in ascending order of brilliance .....

The Style Council- 'The Whole Point of No Return'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgMDsOWp8Mc

Superpulse -'The Whole Point Of No Return '- feat Cynthia Lucci

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fpuEFQFP-Y

Robert Wyatt - 'The Whole Point of No Return'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trQH4FRrcdc

The last one is haunting - if I (or the kids) can find a decent trumpet player - this is what I'd like played at my funeral .... hmm
