/\ yeah man I can't go for the black unless they're free, plus I've got my still-phenomenal N!ke ACG boots in tan suede from '96, and Red Wings etc., but I do like the NB Rainier boot and will try to stay on top of it when it comes out in good colors ......
but I can make every color work for me by closing my eyes, grabbing whatever's closest, throwing it on, and being a holy fool/wholly foolish .....
but I do decry the all-black sneakers look and the insane look of knee-high black socks that the kids have been wearing recently .....

Last time I was in LL Bean in Freeport they had a very similar boot to the Rainier, with the leather and (I think) green panels instead of navy... The sole was more of a sneaker sole though. Wasn't incredibly impressed but if I saw it for cheap I might consider it. It wasn't, though (cheap, that is)... Didn't see it online the last time I checked...
