Gibson

I was in that there John Simons shop last week (Goodwear sweat and JS madras since you asked) and I saw what looked like a decent pair of cords by Gibson (high rise, nice taper).

As I am not familiar with the brand myself, I thought I would ask the Ivy Hive and see what the informed-opinion was...?

Re: Gibson

I did put some aside after trying them on but changed my mind in the end..the fit was good, quality wise they kind of sit around the ben sherman, fred perry mark..

Re: Gibson

I have a pair of the Gibson birdseye flannels from a few years ago - with side adjusters, decent enough and got them in the sale too so pretty cheap. Tried a few different ones on and found the cut was all over the place, the cords I tried were a very odd shape - might have improved now.

By odd shape, what do you mean Tom?

Re: Gibson

Well, the cords I tried seemed tight on the thigh and loose below the knee, I have pretty skinny lower legs and larger thighs which I put down to cycling - never managed the sculpted cyclist calves though!! I think you need to go in and try them on, I know Leer got the recent LVC Sta Prest trouser (not 5 pockets) and said they fit him well but I found these fit the same as those in JS.

Re: Gibson

I had a similar experience to Tom. I bought a pair of Gibsons from JS a couple of years back, but ended up returning them. They were far too tight around the thigh for me as well.

I saw those new cords too. They didn't look bad, but very lightweight, which makes me think they wouldn't wear very well. I'd definitely try them on first if you're thinking of getting them.

Re: Gibson

Strangely then I think thats why the fit worked for me...skinny thighs and massive calves... the material is light though...not really a winter weight cord..
