Re: Hutton Desert boots

Thanks! I'm tempted. I won't actually be wearing DBs until the weather improves drastically, however my old Clarks are looking very scruffy so it would be good to have a replacement.

Re: Hutton Desert boots

Round the house no but they will do for chilling on the park or similar. They will have to be pretty much falling apart before I class them as unwearable.

I'm very happy with my Astorflex desert boots, they are much nore substantial and are noticably heavier than Clarks, the quality is there.

Re: Hutton Desert boots

I decided to take the plunge with the Huttons but the colour I like has gone in my size. They do have the Sahara Sand colour in my size but it looks grey to me. I'm going to wait until the next production and invest a bit more quickly. Hopefully they'll appear before the summer does.

Re: Hutton Desert boots

What is the sizing like on the Astorflex like? I'm a 7.5 for Clarks and wondering if I could get away with an 8.

Re: Hutton Desert boots

So I reckon that since I'm an 8, I should take a 7?

Re: Hutton Desert boots

Hi, I'm new to the forum and just wanted to comment on a few questions that some have mentioned on this thread as to why Hutton's did not revive the Original Playboy shoes and chukka boots first instead of the desert boots.

I'm not sure if some of you know this, but when Hutton of Northampton originally designed the Playboy's they patented the design and construction as well as registered and trademarked the name Playboy here in the UK.

Before Hutton's closed down they sold the design patents and trademarks of the Original Playboy to a Swedish company, who inturn sold them on to John Fabian Trading ApS in Denmark, now also trading as Playboy Footwear.

Because the design patents and registered trademarks are now owned by John Fabian Trading ApS, there is no way Hutton's can produce the Playboy Original shoes or chukka boots, whether themselves or contracted out to another shoe manufacturer.

The only way Hutton's could put their name on the Playboy Footwear is by licensing the product from Playboy Footwear/John Fabian Trading ApS, which I unfortunately doubt Charlotte Fabian current owner would agree to, but hopefully at some point I might get proved wrong on this.

Re: Hutton Desert boots

Interesting info there waz66, thanks for sharing it.

I wonder why Playboy Footwear/John Fabian Trading ApS haven't followed up on making the boot version? Personally I think the shoe version that they currently make is hideously chunky and ugly.

I can't see why Hutton's can't just make a similar boot anyway. There seems to be quite a few versions of it on the market these days, so I can't see it being a problem legally.

As for the Playboy name, I don't think it really matters that you can't use it. The way I see it they will be known as Playboy boots regardless of whether it's written on them or not. Playboy appears to have become the generic name for these boots anyway.

Who makes those boots in your avatar?

Re: Hutton Desert boots

Anyone have any inside info as to whether Hutton are going to be doing any more desert boots? (Really I should just contact the guy.) It seems the 2 desirable colours in their last batch sold very quickly, whilst the black and the greyish proved a lot harder to shift. Personally I didn't like the black or the greyish so that makes sense to me.

Agreed. Definitely not a smart colour choice for the latest batch.
