Fun Shirts

Is anybody into "fun shirts"? The GTH kind Brooks and others make?

Seems to be a summer thing, and I see them occasionally, but I've never owned one and I am on the fence, myself.

Re: Fun Shirts

^ Ha. Yes, that's about what a "fun" shirt looks and "feels" like to me. Too much going on, too lurid.

Like you, I'm fine with madras and tipped polos and the like.

I wonder if it has to do with being more introverted than extroverted. For example, while I like the look of Nantuckets, I'd feel like I'd draw too much attention if I wore them. On the other hand, a fish skeleton belt is subtle enough that I'd feel comfortable with that.

The 'Fun' Shirt, not fun and not a shirt I'd wear ...

Re: Fun Shirts

Great song. Thanks. And I doubt we'd ever see Iggy in one.

Re: Fun Shirts

I had that stiped one.  It had a tealy green and purple that I wasn't so fond of, but being mostly white it wasn't as jarring as solids or plaid panel stuff.

Re: Fun Shirts

I think Brooks had the fun shirt back for a while.  I knew a lot of guys with it.  I thought they were all assholes in school and college.  I was probably wrong, since I seem to be friends with these people now (somewhat to the horror of my younger self).

Re: Fun Shirts

I saw Brian Wilson in concert this week and Al Jardine appeared to be wearing a non-button down fun shirt.

Re: Fun Shirts

I think this is the only "fun shirt" I've ever seen that didn't make me want to gouge out my eyes. However I wouldn't be caught dead wearing any "fun shirt". https://www.beige-habilleur.com/en/shirts/1417-drakes-poplin-button-down-fun-shirt-multi-colour.html

Is that a popped collar or are you just happy to see me?

Re: Fun Shirts

^ Isn't that just as vivid as the old Brooks fun shirts? I love my fun shirts from Brooks, one, long-sleeved, in the classic bengal stripes and one short-sleeve in their more color-blocked wide stripes. I also have a short sleeve classic-style fun shirt from Rowing Blazers. They aren't necessarily weekly wears, but I get a kick out of them.

I sense that, like tassel loafers seem to be here, they are a love 'em or hate 'em item.

Re: Fun Shirts

The postwoman just brought a parcel from Drake's:

https://www.beige-habilleur.com/en/shirts/1416-drakes-poplin-button-down-fun-shirt-bluewhite.html?search_query=drake%27s&results=43

All in all it's a bit more moderate (and for me, wearable) than the colour block variants. The shirt itself is cut to a slightly more narrow pattern than what you would expect from an US-shirt, but they got all the details right, not that you could spot them with all the camouflage.

Re: Fun Shirts

I didn’t notice that shirt on their site, the orange makes it stand out from the usual patchwork madras you see!
