Good 5ps options...

Help needed Talk Ivy-ers.

I'm a fan of (some of) the recent LVC Bedford 519s but seeing as they change them with every release they are now longer a go-to 5ps.

So, I need good alternatives please.
Nothing too expensive as I'm a cheapo.
Good rise, nice taper to an 8" hem please.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Good 5ps options...

If you like the cut of the LVC bedfords Yellow Rat do some great 5pc's

http://yellowrat.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/color-jeans.html

I've got two pair and I'm about to order some more, the rise measurements may look low but the cut of them and highish rear rise mean they have that proper 1960s 'White Levis' fit.

Re: Good 5ps options...

Yeah pretty accurate, they are pre-shrunk so stay pretty stable as long as you avoid a hot wash.

I'm usually a 34w in the LVC bedfords ( which measure 35" at actual waist) so sized down to the 33 and they fit great.

Piggybacking on Sid's request as I am, thanks for that tip Acton, as I too have been looking for decent 5ps for a while. The LVC bedfords four or five years ago were pretty much spot on for me, but they've really mucked about with them since. I liked the JS ones from a couple of years back, though they weren't quite as good.

Wow, I've been checking out the Yellow Rat site. Great stuff. I can see my summertime wallet perhaps getting a little lighter.

Did you order direct from the US Acton ? - How was the process - I thought someone commented that the guy was a bit tricky to deal with (or didn't respond or something)

I'd be curious to know, too (if we're referring to Yellow Rat). There's some great stuff there I wouldn't mind dropping some coin on, e.g., some tees and some trunks. But I'm leery of transacting with the unknown.

Re: Good 5ps options...

I have a couple of brand new pairs of Yellow Rat 5p bedfords for sale, if anyone's interested. Still tagged and bagged. I'm not really into 5p anymore so my loss is your gain. Just send me a PM. Waist sizes 32 & 33 avail.

Re: Good 5ps options...

MM I've had no issues buying directly from his site , same for both orders - paid via PayPal and got my delivery 5 days later.
He was pleasant enough via email about my initial enquiry on sizing and styling.

Re: Good 5ps options...

Yellow Rat's stuff has always looked good to me ... the graphics on the t-shirts are a bit random but outside of that it's a surfadelic collection to be sure

Yeh, I like some of the tees, actually. The trunks look like the Hang Ten and Catalina trunks I wore during my Zonker Harris '70s daze.

Acceptable rise, not ideal for the naval obsessives. I've picked up several pairs for £25 in TK Maxx over the last year including cords.

Re: Good 5ps options...

An OK but not perfect option:

Levi 541s were recently lauded by Chevensfold and are available in a khaki color and a white. I tried a couple pairs myself and find them pretty agreeable. The rise is just acceptable to me...I wouldn't mind it slightly higher, but it definitely is not as low as so many others we find today.

They are called "athletic cut" and marketed toward guys with larger legs and rear. However, myself and others who do not have a thick/muscular lower half whatsoever find them to fit well as slim, but not skinny, option.

The waist has a lot of vanity sizing and has some stretch, so expect to go down on waist size. I'm currently a 34 in most Lands End pants for example, and the 33's in these Levis are plenty comfortable, it's possible I could do a 32. They're easily available in the US from Amazon.
