RIP Ali

Not to be disrespectful this is more to do with the facebook grief thieves, I love Ali, in and out the ring he became bigger than the sport..a true legend......but Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest.

Gotta disagree with ya Bop. Rocky Marciano was. Not as pretty or as graceful but 49 fights 49 wins and 43 by KO speaks for itself. In my opinion it'll never be equalled.
RIP Ali, a truly great fighter who I respected greatly, I have to say he did come out with some dodgy opinions though.

Indeed, whatever the rights and wrongs of the Vietnam War it must stick in the throats of people who fought there or lost loved ones that Ali is now glorified for refusing the draft.

Im going to respect anyones opinion on the matter because who you pick normally reflects what attributes you enjoy, and a lot of it is subjective away from the numbers...but even considering the undefeated run of Rocky there were still many that would be considered a 'better' boxer than him...the guy was a slugger through and through.. but when you consider the numbers and the ability, Sugar Ray for me and many others was the supreme king of the ring... and he hated boxing! The irony of it

Re: RIP Ali

Public opinion usually favours the heavyweight. A good big one etc. That is why you have the notion of the best 'pound for pound' fighter. A sort of consolation prize.

That said, smaller fighters usually move around a lot more and are exciting to watch. The old three round ABA finals with Harry Carpenter commentating were great up until the light heavyweight division where we had truly hopeless types.

Undefeated carries a lot of weight, but you can achieve that by carefully selecting opponents or not fighting tough opposition.

Sugar Ray and Ali were both bigger than the sport. Sugar Ray was the first but Ali had more fame and impact.
