Re: Vinyl Spins

Record store run day. Acquired on LP: 1) De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising (to replace my CD); 2) A Tribe Called Quest's Midnight Marauders; and 3) the recent mono reissue of The Beatles' Revolver.

Re: Vinyl Spins

We ran through 2 and 3 while preparing our chicken dinner and drinking beer. We discovered that it had rained. We talked and agreed that we'd rather hear tires on the rainy streets than listen to the incessant scraping of snow shovels.

Marriage with an English major is a joy.

No. No, I don't. Do you--is that yours!? I remember seeing it in all the stores back in the day, of course. I knew a few kids who got into 8-track for a while, mainly for tunes in their cars, but not many, and I never got into it.

Re: Vinyl Spins

By the by, I wish all my FNB Talk Ivy compatriots, especially contributors to my Vinyl Spins thread, a very happy Thanksgiving week. I confer this wish even up my non-American T.I. friends. Whether we're Tory, Democrat, Republican, or Trunkators, let's all come together in thanks and praise for grooved vinyl, digitized polycarbonate plastic, and magnetized plastic film.

Re: Vinyl Spins

I actually like Yoko's POB a bit more than John's. Hers is far more adventurous and imaginative, and it's also quite funky, with John, Ringo, and Klaus holding down a tight and jammy rhythm section. Ornette Coleman appears on a track.

Re: Vinyl Spins

Yes. Great LP. I didn't "get" Zep until I was in college, but when I did, I was hooked. The first four, maybe five, LPs are awesome.

Re: Vinyl Spins

Yeah. I love Yamaha. The heart of my system is Yamaha -- an A-1020 int amp from 1985. I've had it refurbished a couple of times to keep it limping along, but it is a workhorse, sounds lovely, and lots of extras. My CD player is a more recent (circa 2012) CDS-700, and my tape player, while not currently hooked up, is a K-960 from the early 1980s.

Re: Vinyl Spins

I decided to balance my artistic spending with something a little more rational, by the way. I received the first issue today of my new subscription to SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN. What a great magazine.
