/\  I play that one all the time but the other night I played the other murderer off that LP ........ I don't even have to name it for y'all  ......

yesterday afternoon picked up three lovely slabs o' wax of the Isaac Hayes, Bohannon, and secret hip-hop variety at the best record store in the vicinity .....

fun afternoon. went back home and spun them out

Re: Vinyl Spins

Well... all crates of LPs and CDs made it to Baltimore safe and sound. So did all the stereo gear. I am always amazed at how well this stuff has survived all these years. Downside: Rowhouse apartment living. The place is well insulated and soundproofed but I must now be much more volume-level conscious.

Re: Vinyl Spins

Thanks, stanshall. I feel truly settled in when the gear is hooked up and the vinyl is on the shelves. I carried my two headshells and carts gingerly packed in our car luggage--rather than trust it to the movers--like a junky storing his needle kit. My wife thinks I'm nuts but of course I know best.

Re: Vinyl Spins

Im in a very fortunate place right now...Ive given my complete record collection to a friend apart from a handful I couldnt give up. Moving as regularly as I do means keeping records is a massive drag. But, now I can start again, and now Ive left London a house offers a lot more space than a studio flat.

A few years more experience as well as Spotify's limitless playlists means I can buy vinyl more strategically and considered way.

Where to start?!

10 of the best singles/albums from a given genre I was thinking... a good way to keep levels sensible

What would you guys choose if you were restricting yourselves but going for the best examples of what you like? Its kind of like putting a vinyl dream team together

Re: Vinyl Spins

Wow. I don't think I could do either--give up the collection or take that approach to starting new. I am, and always have been, an in the moment kind of collector. I buy mainly on whim but with some considerations of a want list in mind. That's what has kept it fun for me.

If I were you, I'd think about what you really enjoy listening to right now, and then go look for the best copies of LPs that represent that for you. I wouldn't be any more systematic than that.

I would buy only one or two LPs every couple of weeks, at most, so you have time to really listen to them before buying something new.

Re: Vinyl Spins

Yes! I bought many, many LPs in my college days based only on the cover art and sometimes a review in Rolling Stone. I was about 80 percent successful.

Re: Vinyl Spins

I love a good repress, though, as long as they do it up right. I don't know what I'd do without my Blue Note represses, for example.
