When it becomes a uniform - which it has- you can either see it as a lack of courage to stray away from the uniform or a pride in the uniform so that you stick to it in the face of any critical comments.

I wouldn't decry anyone for wanting to wear Liberty or Hermes ties, they are the choice of someone who wants to set themselves apart, the choice of someone who doesn't want to be seen as traditional. Burberry, Aquascutum, Daks, slightly more fashion orientated, at the end of the day just another style.
You can wear a mish mash of clothes or try to strive for a particular look, as soon as you do the latter somebody will pop up and talk about 'uniforms'.
Ivy is all about low key classic style for me, nothing showy like those ties. Except in the summer when madras and Shantung silk rule! So nothing wrong with the bow tie in Georgie's avatar.

Exactly. It blends pretty well with the shirt, jacket, watch and weather imo.

Styles usually change, at least slightly, over time.
The latter day interpretation of Ivy does not really feature much change. And some of the neck tie patterns even have their own 'number'.
Very buttoned up IMO.

I don't dress as I did in 1969.
Yuca raised the notion of certain ties being 'forbidden' Maybe they are not forbidden but they are not part of the historical look many of you seek.
Same with those crappy British Home Stores Shetlands that many of you love. You could get some very nice jumpers for similar money.

Lots of assumptions in your posts.
1 I only wear Liberty ties. Not true. I have some. And yes, they are in Arts and Crafts designs rather than the flowery patterns you saw, so some people may think of them as 'works of art'. I just think they are nice ties. Same with some Drakes and Charvet offerings.
2 That styles have to be desirable decades later to have any worth. Hats and heavy coats are not going to making a comeback. They were fine in their day, but are now just costume. Ivy is understated compared to say teddy boy outfits - but it can still become a costume of sorts if you are not careful.

Sorry but they change their ties on a regular basis and I don't know if their patterns have numbers attached. Some are flowery. Some are not.(reply for yuca)
