Uniqlo Sack Jacket/Suit

Thanks to OCBD for drawing attention to these new products from Uniqlo. They have launched a new line called the U Collection amongst which is this seersucker sack jacket:

Plus matching trousers for 30 quid. They look to have a reasonably high waist but might need a bit of tailoring.

A summer suit for £100, could be ideal for someone like my 16 yr old nephew who is just starting out.

Anyone seen this stuff yet?

Re: Uniqlo Sack Jacket/Suit

Appears to only be stocked in their urban stores.
The solid colored seersucker stripe is interesting, and the ~24% poly is not necessarily a bad thing.
The outer leg seam is flat felled, so narrowing the leg, described in a review as  "almost comically wide" becomes a hassle.
I can't tell if these are front darts or a pleat.

I'll reserve judgement on the coat but those trousers look sink on that model. Isn't that dart called a fish dart on trousers? Somethings amiss with it. Still like Woof says, might be ok with a bit of chopping about for a youngster, looks better in blue for me.

It looks like a pleat that's been interrupted by a pocket.

They list black and khaki.  There appears to be no stitching on the pleat despite the watch/coin pocket interruption.  The fit is tricky to judge from the photos, and unrumpled seersucker is deceiving although they seem to have definitely avoided the skinny nuthugger style.

Yeah...still don't really feel the seersucker love generally... but they seem quite unoffensive to me and I'd happily take a gander...

HOWEVER

...I've just seen on the website they only go up to a 34 waist?!?!?!?

Is that general for Uniqlo anyone?

Thats a bit dumb, what sort of a pleat starts 2 or 3"s after the waist band?

Yes, the pleat doesn't actually fully work.  I presume the obsession with these low coin pockets is gimmicky showiness?
Anyway, the US site carries the trousers to size 36.

Re: Uniqlo Sack Jacket/Suit

I had a look in the Westfield, Stratford, London shop and didn't see this Sack Jacket/Suit. If I was a 20 year old poor student I would probably buy my clothes here but as I am not I didn't buy anything for myself. From the photo the suit looks a bit iffy and not for me but I like the direction the company is moving in.

...are my eyes completely shot or is there no vent to speak of with these jackets?
I do seem to remember Uniqlo playing around with the 3/2 a few years back though I do seem to remember those jackets were darted.

The back view shot does look as though the jacket is not vented. Alright I suppose as long as you don't plan on sitting down at any time whilst you're wearing it. Sounds like another false dawn at Uniqlo?

The website says they are only available at the Oxford St store so need one of our central London patrols to check it out!

Re: Uniqlo Sack Jacket/Suit

The direction is interesting, didn't bring that one up on here because I knew the lack of a back vent (although that was very common until the late 50s) wouldn't be what people like to see on here... I like the trousers as they would look somewhat different but it is a look not everyone can pull off. I'd probably wear it or better I would have worn it when I was younger. A good look for youngsters and miles ahead of the ultra skinny low rise crap we had for the last decade!

Btw, COS rises up the waistbands, too. Some nice looking chinos there. And Land's End trad cut easy iron chinos are worth a look, too. Bought two for € 36,-- as beater trousers and their rise is pretty good. They look pretty much like US marine corps chinos from the 60s (think of Full Metal jacket), athough those are a bit higher I suppose.

Dom, I'd like you to read this back to yourself while looking at the picture of the trousers on this thread and revaluate.

Not even Woofie in his MC Hammer phase could pull those off. Completely minging.
