Many people also abuse children, take drugs, drink PBR. Doesn't make it right. Patrick is right. Just say no to shorts.
Context is key, of course. I'd wear them to stroll on the beach or lounge around a pool. Never beyond that though.
The J Press walk short, those khaki really heavy twill ones with the buckle on the back - king of all shorts.
I love the look of tailored khaki shorts and an open neck blue OCBD, either short sleeve or rolled sleeves.
When the weather merits it in the UK I wear shorts as much as I can, that's at least four days a year.
I tried a pair on in the J Press DC branch about fours years ago, it was the last pair they had, they may even have been the last pair on the planet as I have never seen them in the online selection since that season. Sadly they were a generously sized 38 and just too big to be altered down. I should have bought them and eaten more.
The only 'walk shorts' they offer online at the moment are seersucker, which look very nice but are not what I want at all.
Google searching for 'walk shorts' just brings up loads of walk-ing shorts which are of course something quite different.
Ha ha, I know, just messin' with the shorts lovers. Here's another aspect for me: I feel vulnerable, unprotected, in a way, in shorts. For one, there's the sun, which would mean I'd have to slather on more sunscreen or risk burning. For another, just generally, my naked legs are exposed to the hazards of everyday life, edges of tables, spilled coffee, etc. It's much like how I feel about sandals -- I can't stand the idea of wearing sandals in an urban environment. It's like when I see people on motorbikes or bicycles in sandals -- like, wow, man, hope you're not real attached to the idea of keeping your toes.

^ Is that what they mean by lazy journalism?
Great summer look Patrick!
/\ Aloha Spicoli ... I suppose you know best what you're comfortable wearing but I think people can be too harsh on themselves sometimes .... I'm sure the public can stand the sight of your legs but on the other hand it's as alright for you not to wear shorts when you don't want to as it is for others to wear them when they do ....
last night at dinner there was an 80+-year-old Harvard alum who was telling us about the 1930s, and he was wearing shorts, but nobody got sick and had to leave the room ....
anyway if you wear nice bright Hawaiian shirts like the one in the pic people will never notice your legs but if they do anyway and they don't like them either it's their problem, not yours, or you need a more distracting shirt .......
That's the Magnum P.I. shirt from Maui Shirts. It's the Hawaiian shirt to have if you're having only one.
