Seersucker jacket

I must admit that seersucker jackets has grown on me the last couple of months. My "problem" is that I find it hard to pair it with something. I usually see the jacket being worn with a solid navy tie, no repp tie, and dark trousers. Does anyone else have any other sort of combo?

Re: Seersucker jacket

I find my seersucker to be a pretty versatile item, it looks good with dark trousers or chinos, providing the chinos are a good strong darker shade of khaki. I like a dark blue button down under the jacket (French blue) and have worn it with all sorts of summery ties, madras, bright repp stripes, or bright coloured knit ties - solid or stripe (as well dark blue knit). Texture is important too, cotton or knit tie seem to go with it best.

My seersucker is a Brooks grey/blue colour, the stripes are quite fine and muted like a pincord, so that from a distance it just looks like you're wearing a light blue jacket, I find you can wear it with all sorts of things. The problem comes with the more boldly striped and/or brightly coloured seersuckers as they tend to clash with anything patterned.

The old wash and wear jackets are good because light jackets show the dirt.

A blue seersucker with 1/4" stripes, charcoal or medium grey tropical worsted trousers, the lightest fabric choice of your preference for a shirt in white, a cotton or silk knit tie (wool if light enough) in black. Black penny loafers or plain toe bluchers. Black Ray Bans, and you are the business.

Re: Seersucker jacket

I've tend to wear mine with a madras tie and blue OCBD when I want something other than the navy knit tie.. I've also worn it with burgundy trousers.

that is a great pic BB, do you know what/where/when?  anyway, I like that combo, previously my thinking had been that seersucker worn with pale khakis looked too washed out, but I've changed my mind, that's obviously not always the case ........

Re: Seersucker jacket

It's a Sewanee yearbook, probably '83 or so.... Unfortunately I don't have the exact year in from of me but if I run across it again I'll edit this to include it... I agree, I'd always thought the same and the pic had the same effect on me. I think the black belt and dark tie are very important to keep the outfit from being too pale overall... Wish I could see the shoes!

Re: Seersucker jacket

i don't own one, but if I did! I think I'd make a point of not getting too dressy with it. MJST-iron stone or khaki-colored chinos left a bit unironed looking, plain belt, blue ocbd, navy knit tie, just like in the picture. I think if you add more color or dressiness to it, it's the kind of jacket that can become a bit dandyish. Wouldn't ever do any kind of dressy trousers. Shoes... I'd opt for some well-worn Bean blucher mocs... or even some scuffed up old Vans canvas white sneaks.

Re: Seersucker jacket

Some Tretorn Nylites... mmhmmm... I do think light chinos, black belt, dirty bucks, white shirt (blue seems like it would really wash out a seersucker jacket) and a dark knit tie is the ultimate summer look, other than the poplin suit and something with shorts and boat shoes... I think it has a much more relaxed and cool (temperature-wise) look than the classic, William F. Buckley seersucker with dark trousers...

One from my archives, one year when we had a summer. I like a dark shirt with seersucker.

Re: Seersucker jacket

Buckley's trousers look a mite dark with the old seersucker .....

speculating, if I was wearing the seersucker sport coat in the day I might go with pale cotton chinos, and at night I'd wear gray tropical worsteds

You have painted a picture in my head...minus the Ray Bans. I rock Shurons.
