Ivy Woes?

1. Financial
2. Moths
3. Finding new hiding places from your girlfriend for new clothes & shoes
4. Things that are "almost right" which you buy and then frown at forever

See? I'm probably one of you? What can you add to my list of angsts?

Re: Ivy Woes?

Referring to the OP:

#1. Nobody's closet was made over night. Put yourself on a budget. Prioritize. Buy what you can, save for the rest.

#2. Be careful.

#3. I read or hear about #3 now and then. I can't imagine this situation. It means you can never really wear the clothes without fear of being found out, right? Where's the fun in that? Be honest with your partner, or don't buy the stuff.

#4. Only buy what is "right," stuff you love immediately and know with confidence you will wear. Forget everything else.

Re: Ivy Woes?

So go ask a Mod? I've certainly interviewed the guy. That's on the record. I also research everything. I am non judgmental and to be honest I have my own way to go.  I was interested in the way that he is always the elephant in the room in the world of Ivy online. Couldn't care less now. I've done him. If anybody else isn't over him yet then that's also cool. It's your business. Not mine. He'll love that. He's like that. It's obvious.
My interest in the playground politics of internet clothing forums is over now my studies are almost at an end.  However my interest in clothes carries on.
Note that I have never mentioned his name or promoted his business on the forum. I have never used the J. word on the forum. I am not a customer of his (too pricey) nor am even greatly regarded by him (he's too facey). I went to his London "studio" once on his invitation and he couldn't wait to get rid of me when an old customer came in out of the blue. I stayed put to watch the show. He hated that and hid it very badly ending up with him taking me out to lunch just to get me out of the room.  Sure he was charming throughout but piss doesn't beat pepper. He was on the hop and it showed. At least to me it did.
So get over him? Calling me "Jim" is an act of trolling? Don't care. It's the kind of stuff he loves. Maybe you are him keeping his name fresh out there? Who knows?  Please don't answer. Let it drop. The guy isn't doing any media. Look at his website.
Keep the "Jim" theme going and you are his PR department. And you're not even getting paid. "The Notorious J.I.M." is what he trades on.  Enough?

But I should write up my visit to his "Studio" on another thread. Who else has been?
Time to get this thread back on track?

Speaking of mods, here's some advice - don't take bait, and don't hang it out in front of people who can't resist it. That goes for everyone.

Anything other than a button-down collar is for lounge lizards.

My favorite quote from an FNB member's father.

Despite certain problems, TI continues to be a wealth of good information.

Maybe a little too exact, but trying to find a nice vintage fishman collar sweater, or at least trying to work out what they are exactly called.

Any constructive criticism about TI can be PM'd to myself, stan or woof... but for now, this thread is *Ivy* woes, not *Talk* Ivy woes! smile

Some good stuff here... Loved looking at those sweaters (as the temperatures rise over here, sadly...)

Please can someone start a thread in the NSFW section with a link to Jim's site so we can keep the topic quarantined. Or PM me the link.

Re: Ivy Woes?

The mods are aware of everything that's been said re: Jim here, and we're figuring out the best way to deal with it, which is why I've deleted and edited posts here, not to silence anyone but just to reduce the amount of friction and keep the thread as on track as it can be... Yuca, I agree that this should move to the NSFW section...

Ian's on strike two as far as I'm concerned. Anyone who has a concern about Jim etc. can PM myself, stan or woof and you can trust that we will address it... But if you turn this into a witch hunt and provoke other members you'll be banned temporarily.

Done - I've started a thread over on the dreaded NSFW.

Ian: please could you head over there to answer a question for me.

I'm surprised that you would consider stating the obvious to be some sort of 'witch hunt'. This sort of heavy handed approach is in my opinion misguided.

I'm curious as to whether he was talking to me or Ian. (Or neither of us. Or both of us.)

Re: Ivy Woes?

It goes for everyone generally, which is why I didn't specify... Heavy-handed or not, it's better not to go in circles with this stuff, I think we can all agree on that smile Onwards and upwards, kids... As I've said, feel free to PM me with any concerns and they will be listened to... But we should always try to be respectful of all the members of our community until they give us real reason to do otherwise, at which point the mods will address it appropriately.
