Lovely Bill, there's nothing quite like getting your home environment just as you'd like it

Re: Alternatives to Eames chair

What do you think of the Knoll chain link chairs?  I never cared for them, or for the hair pin legs on the tables.  Same for when they were new (or at least newer) and now.

But that hasn't always been the case.

I was thinking the other day how -- at least I did this -- one growing up never really is so much aware of ones environment -- so that a aesthetic sets in an it prejudices one afterward.  For good or ill.  And either for or against that look.  So many things I didn't like, I now like.  Esp. things I was around all the time.  Whereas things that I did like (I can think of a few aesthetic blunders when younger) I simply shake my head at...

Re: Alternatives to Eames chair

/\  personally I have not found the Bertoia wire chairs to be that comfortable to sit in, one of my architect pals had some ....

the bobby pin table isn't that stable

I prefer the upholstered Bertoia chairs to the stark wire ones ......

my parents never had any modern furniture or any new furniture either, except for one Eames reclining lounge chair with ottoman back in the early '70s, which was given away after the black lab puppies chewed up the leather, so much for the shock of the new ......

Love the ol' Hudson blank.  And I like the cobbled together cot (which is anything but.  That's some work right there).

Re: Alternatives to Eames chair

Very nice. I replaced an old two seat sofa with two similar chairs from Heals this year.  I guess we get to enjoy chairs more regularly than a clothing item.

Look out for Cassina 277 Auckland, Vitra (Grand) Repos or Freifrau Leya wingback chair. They all have footrests aswell.

Re: Alternatives to Eames chair

I have been buying British designers for chairs in recent years.  Nice to buy local design less famous that Danish, USA midcentury designers  - Oliver Hubriak from Nottingham's Finn chair x 2, Robin Day 675 recreation by Case, Isokon Donkey 3 unit, John Green two piece Embrace book case and so on.  I am delighted the Sylvia and John Reid range for Stag has been licenced and reissued. I'll probably have one of those at some point when my Eames finally wears out or the Robin Day Avian AV1.  Also keen on fhe Robin Day recliner by TwentyTwentyOne.  I also like some of the new designs by DoshiLevien and got their lamp.  Modern design goes hand in hand with clothing for me.  I spend as much time in the Danish Home Store here as I can when in the city.http://www.danish-homestore.com
