Re: Peaky Blinders style

Ha, he's got Woof's smile.

I just checked with my wife, who is Anglo/American and she looked into it with the embassy and apparently things are looking promising re: the cap I would have to move there in order to apply but apparently they would look favourably on supplying me with the correct paperwork that would allow me worldwide clearance on wearing the cap. So that's a relief. If that's what it takes, then that's what it takes.

Re: Peaky Blinders style

William Hague's flirtation with baseball caps saw him widely derided for trying to project a youthful trendy image at the ripe old age of 36! Ten years + later it's still brought up every time there is any reference to his time as Conservative leader, and anyone who wants to taken seriously in public life in the U.K. would probably not want to be seen out wearing a ball cap.

Of course if you are just an ordinary Joe it doesn't matter.

Re: Peaky Blinders style

As an American -

- No one generally wears Ebbets-style baseball caps, though they are easily the best kind
- Dad hats are a fashion trend, I also prefer the dad hat soft construction and have many, some from old construction jobs, some from obscure towns, some sports-related, etc.
- Flat-bill caps are off-limits for all but a select few
- The kind of baseball cap worn on the weekend in the summer out on the boat and the kind of baseball cap worn with an Ariat shirt and roper boots may look the same on a superficial level, but they are NEVER to be confused

In general, the classic sports team baseball cap as made by brands like '47 is non-fashion, the absence of fashion... Caps with emojis, the Twisted Tea logo and hunter camo, or a flat-bill cap from the Golden State Warriors or LA Lakers are fashion... Either way, the only way to pull it off is by not thinking about it, ever

Re: Peaky Blinders style

The Boston Club Style baseball cap was a newsboy cap, here's one in a Snyder baseball goods catalog page from 1875:

Baseball caps. flat caps, and newsboys are all well-documented in Ivy history:

From good old Take Ivy, which to my knowledge doesn't contain any photos of guys wearing flat caps or newsboy caps:

"Baseball caps. As in Japan, many students do away with wearing a hat on campus. Still, we occasionally came across a few of them wearing baseball caps."

Yes you're right, much like Chris Huhne with the navy blue Baracuta G9.

Re: Peaky Blinders style

I was looking at that Snyder catalouge too Stan, and was suprised to see the bucket hats and porkpie shaped hats also listed as ball caps from the late 1800s?

/\  yes Babbling, the very early New York Knickerbockers pro baseball team wore some kind of straw porkpie hats that resembled No. 1 above.

Re: Peaky Blinders style

/\  I'm down to baseball caps and bobcaps, or watch caps or ski hats, whatever you want to call them, I'm very comfortable in them, they feel right to me.

Island-style straw hats also work well for me as sun protection on the beach, I've got palm frond hats, lifeguard-type hats, all that beach gear, worn it forever.

one I might have forgotten to mention is the khaki boonie cap, it's another sun protection option, good for gardening, hiking, beach, outdoor activities, I like it even though it's goofy

Hah, you're probably right. I follow a street style "blogger" @mistermort on Instagram. Sometimes he rocks a beret and it doesn't look bad.
