Hey Shooey, I don't have any unusual colours like those beauties!

Couldn't you wear them with plain grey trousers or suit?

I've got black shoes of course and sometimes they are the only appropriate thing - but they are a bit sort of  boring really.

Burgundy has got to be the most versatile colour, I can't think what it doesn't go with?

In uni, I wore army green camp mocs with jeans almost daily, regardless of season (barefoot in the summer, paired with woolly socks in the Canadian winter). You've inspired me to have some fun again, Shooman!

Re: Navy blue and olive green shoos

I'm a very boring shoe wearer, all shades of brown and burgundy, I wear my black shoes (loafers) very rarely indeed... I do have dark blue house slippers though...

Shooman, that pic you posted is a trip, I've never seen shoes like that in the wild and I'm poorer for it, not my style at all but I have nothing but sincere admiration for anyone who wears those, I'm sure you rock them like nobody's business... It would definitely be a fun task to match them!

That navy calf shoe is interesting. I got a pair of Gaziano and Girling in a sort of Navy calf and charcoal suede spectator. The color combination is low contrast and I wear them with dark suits.

Re: Navy blue and olive green shoos

Blue shoes always catch my eye whenever I see them for sale.  A couple of times I have come close to purchasing them but the indecision I have is when and what I will wear them with.  I have never seen a blue or green dress shoe in the wild other than suede which I don't put in the same category.

I have been thinking about a dark green dress shoe to wear with a SJ in the fall.  Possibly a dark green casual calf shoe as well.  There are a couple of make ups on the St Crispins website I find intriguing but would love to see them in person first.

Shooman, I am curious if you use any other colours of polish on your green shoes to give them more depth?  The pictures you posted look great and have me thinking of this again.

Re: Navy blue and olive green shoos

I agree the John Lobb 7000 last is a great looking round toe shoe.  Always liked the Edward Green 202 as well.  The 7000 from Lobb and the new EG 202 just don't fit properly so time to find something else.

Good to know about the polish.

It looks like St Crispins is coming to Toronto for a trunk show in April.  Hope I can see the different lasts and colour samples in person.  Also curious if they still do modified lasts.  Keep thinking about a derby captoe on the classic last in green crust calf.

Re: Navy blue and olive green shoos

What is the difference between the old 202 and the new 202?

I find the new 202 to still be a round toe but the rest of the forefoot is less bulbous.  It seems thinned out which gives it a slightly more pointy appearance.  Still looks OK but it now pinches my foot.  The old 202 seemed to be better for larger sizes as it looked less pointy.  They only shoes I have on the new 202 are a few pair of casual suede which stretch a bit.

Im with you Ed13, the old 202 had a lot of room for bulbous toes that swelled from friction and much walking.

Re: Navy blue and olive green shoos

Shooman,

If the igent takeover of Vass bothers you wait for the asian takeover of the Budapest last.  Had a guest at the house recently who curates hip fashion for a large department store chain in Hong Kong and mainland China.  She immediately recognized these shoes since they are a hot item in Japan.  Maybe a run is coming to Vass or some bad knockoffs will flood the market.

I agree with your assessment of the wearability of Vass shoes.  A solid shoe with virtually no break in time.  Feel extremely light on my feet as well which makes wearing them all day a pleasure.

I always buy black shoes for myself. This color is universal and suitable for any clothing.
