Re: Unforgivable sins

I'm not too partial to monogramming dress clothes - I have a lot of negative associations with doing so, especially around self important people who made my early career hellish. However, I do have a really soft spot for Lands End's monogramming service, for some crazy reason. Dad hats, tote bags, whatever. It's so dorky looking, and to me, hilarious, to spend $6 monogramming a $14 hat. I just can't help myself. Blame it on my eternally dorky sense of humour I guess....

Monogramming is mildly better than having your lapel or last cuff button hole done in a contast colour. When I have something made I'm always asked if I want a monogram and we have a little snigger together. Though I always want the cloth makers label inside a coat, I guess thats just as geeky.

Beeston was right about my intentions in nixing brown. No one is arguing the good brown stuff that exists. Brown shirts, flat brown ties, cheap brown suits with yellow shirts a la Dwight Schrute... That's what I was talking about. Obviously tweed, cords, etc are great, I've posted many photos of myself in the good browns here so I don't think anyone should really be dinging me for that LOL

Re: Unforgivable sins

I've also got some great cashmere pieces in dark brown.

- dark brown vintage Lyle & Scott cardigan with mother of pearl buttons

- dark brown made-in-scotland Hermes cashmere long sleeve polo with mother of pearl buttons.

Both pieces of clothing are stunning in their own right and will lift almost any casual outfit, and when combined properly a beautiful brown can be eye popping and inviting.

I have many items of brown.  All can be useful and used to good effect.

Re: Unforgivable sins

/\  Brown is no different than any other color, there are many shades of brown and all of them are potentially useful for clothing, and though individual preferences vary, it seems somewhat childish to me to completely reject a color that is, for one thing, so predominant in nature.

However, it can't be "wrong" to dislike a color or a shade of a color either, the same way it can't be "wrong" to prefer any given material thing to any other material thing; it is not a moral issue.
