LAST Magazine in Stock

Just to let you know, I was over at Kinokuniya at Rockefeller Center this afternoon and they have an entire stack of LAST magazine Vol. 7.  This is the first time I've ever found this magazine in stock anywhere, so get them while they are hot!

Re: LAST Magazine in Stock

I'll post my ignorance as well.  Never heard of this magazine.  I am right in Rockefeller though and may go down to see what all the fuss is about.

Re: LAST Magazine in Stock

This is a Japanese shoe magazine published by Esquire Japan that the styleforum crowd likes to refer to as "shoe porn".  I can't read Japanese, but there are great pictures in this.  Unfortunately, imageshack has shut off styleforum.net, so the links to scanned images won't load, alas, so I can't give you a link.  It's well worth checking out.

Re: LAST Magazine in Stock

Thanks for taking the time to post pictures.  Some rather avante garde designs, one, in particular, from the conservative firm of Barrett, of Parma, Italy, that raises my eyebrow.

Nicee pics.  One ?, are the bemer for Valextra and the regular Bemer the same thing?  If you don't read Japanese, are the prices the same?  The green shoes are beautiful in person at Saks.  Very lightweight.

Those Barretts with the bicycle toe aren't particularly appealing.

I agree, the Bemer for Valextra shoes are rather elegant, and the colors distinctive.

Interesting article on eminent bespoke tailor "Tommy" Caraceni. Saw pic of Crockett & Jones shoe, but none that I could spot from bespoke shoemaker Tony Gaziano, who has a devoted following in Japan.

Re: LAST Magazine in Stock

No Graziano, this was strictly an Italian issue (yes, I know, there was an Albaladejo and a C&J and a few other non italians). Caraceni suits, Pellicano ties, Mattioli shirts and lots of Italian shoes (a lot of them ugly). MensEx, a japanese clothing/shoe magazine has a more British aesthetic. Lots of EG, Crockett, Cleverly, Lobb shoes. I'll take some pics of that and post. Some interesting, wearable stuff in MensEx.

Re: LAST Magazine in Stock

Gravati makes a very handsome, well-constructed shoe that is rather conservative yet having a bit of Italian flair.  However, it can require some patience and financial dexterity to commit to them, at least on special order, as I had done recently. I purchased a couple pr at their trunk show a few months ago at Bergdorf Goodman and was required to make full payment despite a *6 month* wait.  To be fair to Gravati, those payment terms are BG's.

Re: LAST Magazine in Stock

l've been trying to get LAST magazine for years and l haven't been able to get even one volume from my Japanese book shop. Do the volumes have a code or ISBN number?

ls it possible for someone to send me a copy of Volume 7? Or even Volumes 1 - 7 if possible? Naturally i'll pay for them upfront.

Great shoos man.

Regards: Ronny.

Re: LAST Magazine in Stock

Shooman, I'm like you.  I've been looking for this magazine for at least a year to no avail.  I would call Kinokuniya and see if they will ship you a copy.  I'm back home in Chicago right now so can't pick you up a copy.

Re: LAST Magazine in Stock

Kinokuniya is a Japanese bookstore with branches in various countries.  They have a large store at Rockefeller Center.  Google is your friend here.  A quick search tells me that their number is +1 212 765 7766.  The staff are mostly not native English speakers and my experience is that it can be difficult to explain to them exactly what you are looking for.  But unless there was a run on these things yesterday, they definitely have it in stock.  There were 10-15 copies in a big stack in the magazine section.

Re: LAST Magazine in Stock

The number I have is (03) 5775 5690, presumably in Japan.

Kinokuniya has various outlets throughout Asia, so you could Google around and see what you find.  I do know the one in Singapore didn't carry LAST.  The New York store seems focused on carrying Japanese books, whereas the others I've been in are more traditional local bookstores with a Japanese section.

Re: LAST Magazine in Stock

Why oh why does a world class cordwainer like Lattanzi have to persistantly put out so many horrible looking shoes??? Look at the those monks! Aghhhh!!!....something Fatty ar Buckle would wear to a German dance/jig party. Horrible with a price tag to really insult. Some Lattanzi are beautiful works of art but some are absolutely hideous. Why does Silvano do it? He seems to be skitzo (can't spell the word)....one day great shoes and another day hideous shoes. l would love to get into the mind of Lattanzi and know what his thinking......then again maybe l don't.

Re: LAST Magazine in Stock

Thanks for the heads up....will drop by my local Kinokuniya this weekend and see if the LA store has it as well.  On the topic of Japanese style mags, anyone know of any other worthwhile magazines to check out (not necessarily shoes, more clothes oriented)?
