Re: The Ivy League Style: The Boom Years.

Does anyone out there remember Botany 500 clothing brand. They used to be on the credits for nearly every American TV show in the 60's and 70's. 'Get Smart' I remember was one show, and all the Detective shows too. Were they super hip at the time? Are they still around?

Any worse than, say, Haggar?

I would probably put them in the same category. At least, in the modern incarnations. It really is sad. I have seen some great looking vintage Botany 500 on the 'Bay. Never seems to be in my size.

Have you seen those 'vintage' Haggar golfing trousers, SS?  Eeeee!! as the ladies in the old EC comics used to screech...

Re: The Ivy League Style: The Boom Years.

Heh. Yeah, I have come across a few pairs, usually in "kelly" green or a nice piss yellow. Dreadful.  About eight or so years ago a friend of mine purchased a Haggar Seersucker jacket from a thrift store. I kept raving about this Miles at Newport photo so he decided that I wanted that jacket. Needless to say it was heinous. Giant sleeves, Poly/Cotton, and the blue stripe was more of a teal. Talk about "Eeee!!"

Bless you, Look. I love looking through Ebony mags from this period. Great ads, too.

I am guessing from the car tag, and the surrounding trees those folks aren't all that far from where I grew up. Great picture.

There were definitely no Sero Ivy Irish in 1964 either.

Not in the Gaeltacht anyway...

Re: The Ivy League Style: The Boom Years.

Eastwood apparently modelled his look and acting style on McQueen in Bullitt. I appreciate his efforts, and applaud his taste, but feel that Clint sadly peeked in the 70s, a decade of sartorial ugliness. He will forever have the whiff of that hairy flairy era about him, even when sporting a tweed jacket and repp tie. His commitment to jazz and the clear intelligence that runs through much of his work, certainly as a director, makes him that rare thing - a genuinely interesting, individual talent. Yeh but I agree - that barnet is a shocker.
