Ah yes.  I'm reminded of the poem I wrote once for the forum... Ms. Bucket.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Maybe we should we all try and put together a BEIGE outfit from our own wardrobe and try and make it work?

Really though it's mostly a sunny day type thing for me - chinos, desert boots, beige polo and an off white bucket hat, for example.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I dont think it was one of Oliver's best outfits, it was okay though. Perhaps it is just that a lot of pensioners in the UK do actually wear beige clothing from head to toe, hence the inevitable association and the standing joke for Brits. The need to avoid derision and David Attenborough jibes from mates has sub consciously led me to add 'no more than one beige item' to my list of clothing rules.

During their working lives pensioners wore beige for their two week summer holiday; beige polyester trousers, white M&S shirt, beige windcheater (slightly different shade) velcro shoes and if it's sunny, possibly a beige flat cap. Once they retire and life becomes one big holiday they feel the need make a statement by wearing it all the time. Charity shops are full of beige clobber from the wardrobes of old boys who have popped their clogs.

The great thing about this gear is, that apart from funerals, it covers all bases. You can transition seamlessly from the early morning walk to the paper shop, to the bowling green, to the Hungry Horse pub for your early bird 2 for 1 dinner, then home in time for Countdown and bed by 8.30pm because you're bored.
