^Cloyd as a christian name is a contraction of the surname of Clarence-Lloyd,
the name gained popularity in the USA from a fire-brand Welsh preacher (originally from the Vale of Glamorgan area) who established a number of chapels in Missouri in the early 1800s.
His occasionally turns up in the history books relating to the Louisiana Purchase.
