Re: Ivy League style for today

Rod in all honesty I consider most of your shots (that I see elsewhere) to be terrible. However your behaviour on here last year was admirable (after some loser set up a fake account in your name), and you seem to be enjoying yourself which I also respect . . . Anyway I was expecting your ivy attempt to be wack but it looks good. On saying that, I do think that the tie may be too wide for the jacket - maybe it's just the shots. And personally I think the khakis are too casual for the rest of the outfit. I wear tweed, tie, BD, khakis and cordo gunboats myself so I may be talking nonsense, but I think lightweight high rise dress slacks would do it more justice, or keep the khakis and go with a knitted tie.

Anyway keep it up and stick around.

Incidentally, ivy isn't just for the colder climes - check out the tropical ivy thread for further info.

Like that Harry, very cool. Looks kinda late 70s, 80s prep. Love those coachs jackets especially hunter green. ( Don't care for the sideburns )

Re: Ivy League style for today

Thanks for the comments upthread fellas. Anyone who's seen me post elsewhere might have gathered that I love the discussion even if we're not all in agreement, as long as it's congenial. Maybe even 'especially' if we're not all in agreement as you can learn more that way.

@4FHep - some interesting background there about the Jazz scene although I was intending to include blues, rnb and soul musicians from America who provided some style influence to the proto Mods. Anyway despite being a bit obsessive about The Jam in my yoof I don't listen to them much now, they were the perfect soundtrack to my life for a few years but then my life changed and so did the soundtrack! Those bands I mentioned, Heaven 17, Japan, Bauhaus, Talking Heads, Kraftwerk ... what a time to be alive! You could look around your sixth form common room and know what kind of music anyone was into by the way they had their barnet!

@ Yuca - ta for your thoughts.  Just for the hell of it I checked and the tie is 3.5, the lapels are 3 inches. Not too far out of proportion so maybe the perspective is skewing the look a bit. I don't normally do midriff close ups but just wanted to show how high the rise is on those K-1 Crammertons even though I confess to having the legs slimmed. Spot on about the slight formality incongruity - I reckon either swopping the tie for a knit or the strides for my gray flannels as you suggest would line up better.

Either way, I quite like the Ivy style and can see myself trying to put together more outfits that are inspired by the look so will post up again if and when it happens. Cheers all - Rod!
