Jeans do not go with Ivy, simple fact.
Khakis are our jeans, five pockets at a push.

Jeans. no siree.I have seen plenty of pics of guys in their low rise jeans with sacks on here
It never looks good in my opinion.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I'm not so sure about this as I'm not averse to wearing jeans with a natural shoulder tweed jacket, heavy OCBD, maybe a Shetland, and dessies or Paraboots - casual rugged ivy look.

Jeans go with a casual look, the obvious thing to wear with your Harringtons, Mackinaws, duffles, stadium jackets, M65 etc. Where it falls down for me is jeans paired with a more formal jacket or blazer as in Rod's first picture (sorry mate!).

Re: Ivy League style for today

Jeans with ivy: is there a jacket (sports coat) involved? Yes = don't do it. No = do it.

However if the jacket is super lightweight and you wear it with a polo shirt or cotton sweater you can get away with it (a la early 60s elite Soho mod).

Re: Ivy League style for today

Nah. Jeans with a heavier, darker tweed jacket deffo works. You don't have to look like Clarkson. Just don't wear shit, baggy, faded jeans with crap shoes  and don't have big old beer belly like he does.

Also, dark jeans with a camel overcoat is a solid look in the winter IMHO. Not really ivy, but as explained, I don't think ivy always works in the UK climate.

If you feel the urge then don't let me stop you, but imo jeans with tweed doesn't do either element justice.

Re: Ivy League style for today

^ CandV, the camel coat and denim will make you look like a 'ticket tout' so probably best avoided.

Denim jeans and sports jacket rarely, if ever, works. Mixing the ultra casual with semi-formal is a bad move all round usually.
If you pop down too Twickenham this afternoon for the Italian match and check out the crowd you'll see plenty of evidence of it not working and maybe the occasional one that looks ok ( and he'll probably be Italian as well).

It's also a case of the 'correct jeans' as Armchaired so expertly put it,
most modern cut jeans are a total anathema to 'the look',
there are plenty of threads on here about decent denim, so use the forum search option.

Better to stick with a zip-up windbreaker or jumper/sweatshirt up top and something in suede on your feet IMHO

Re: Ivy League style for today

Go look at the 70s Prep thread and take some deep breaths, Bop... This isn't the hill to die on...

Woof is right, best to leave things as they are... I think everyone's gotten their point across, it's all just rehashing from this point on... No need to bring dictators into this. We can all continue the discussion in the NSFW section, but let's spare the ILSFT thread! Where's Ox and his wholesome Main Street pics when we need him most?

Re: Ivy League style for today

Thanks for participating in the discussion there fellas, (before it all went a bit sideways). In a partial defence of my pic, I'm fully aware that jeans and jacket is a questionable / difficult combo that is just never gonna work in some people's' views, also note that I suggested my pic ticked some Ivy boxes but in no way inferred that it was a full-on unimpeachable Ivy outfit from head to toe. I admit to being generally a novice of the genre and in no way claiming any expertise. I could have worn the khakis from my previous pic or maybe some dusty green chinos and come some way towards passing inspection!

Re: Ivy League style for today

I would agree , we seem to have lost the art of the debate on the forum of late.

We can agree to disagree without insulting each other ,surely ?

I wasnt keen on Rod the Mods look but he seems a good guy and i for one welcome his contributions.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I'm down with my man ZarJazzy.. can't say I've looked on here in an age but I've timed it to poifection n all..

But as has always been the case on here.. I couldn't give a flying fucksiebunnie what any of you wear.. it's just feckin' clothes my tiny peckers.. wear what you like.. how ya like.. where ya like.. and as long as you haven't overdone it on the rouge and lippy.. then you all look splendido and there's surely room for everyone... if this place is ever gonna function IN A FUCKING CIVILIZED WAY YOU CAAAAAAANTS...:

Anyhoo - talking of peckers.. I had my first erection since 1987 yesterday.. it's still going strong as it goes.. dunno what the fook I've bought off eBay but it's proper mentalist mein bruders.. and getting beyond a joke.. I took out a whole counter of sandwiches and pasties (some of which were exceedingly hot to make matters worse.. ) earlier in Morrisons... NIGHTMARE.. and you think you've got problems with yer poxy outfits?!?

I've no ILSFT meanwhile I'm afraid. I'm back to being a New Romantic again.. it really is awfully liberating you know..

Right - off to slam thee auld fella in the door again in an effort to stop this madness right now..

As you were...but you know... "Eeeeed up... letting go of the hate...and letting the sunshine in"
