Re: Ivy League style for today

Thanks for your concern, by the way! I've just been mad busy with work, and a large part of my mind has been recently taken up with rugby football, so I ain't been around much. The London trip was great - I got the JS chinos, thought they were spot on as regards colour, cloth and rise - maybe a little narrow at the bottom for my tastes, but still the business. I'm getting them hemmed as we speak. I also bought from JS a cracking vintage 60's Southwick suit, of the sort I've been after for a while, in a sort of dark steel grey. It's just having some minor adjustments at the seamstress's.

I've also got a new Lambretta/Vespa hybrid, as you can see.

Ah, Kingstonian said he thought rugby football might be involved.  Southwick.  Mm, nice.

Something that is very 'Ivy', I think, is dressing for the seasons.  'Esquire' would provide advice (for anyone who needed it).  Lots of tits are still going around in silly baggy shorts and Matalan tops.  I could easily tell the English from the Italians in Venice in October three or so years ago.  The Italians - sensible lot - dress for the weather.  A good duffel coat or pea coat will be a must from now until about next April!

Re: Ivy League style for today

I'd need a new white shirt... mainly for use with a suit when I need to use a tie (which I generally dislike but sometimes it's nice to use it) because of the need to be a bit formal - probably with cufflinks... thought about a rather (not too much!) slim fit shirt with cufflinks. Any recommendations? I tend to not wanting a button down shirt for that use... probably a round collar. Thoughts, please! smile

P.S.: Living in Austria recommendations could be a bit "limited" as not all brands are always available... though most "famous" are (BB for instance is no problem) - I also think about getting a bespoke shirt...

Indeed a very good picture ...
Had you have worn a french beret, you could have been the inspiration for the cover of Graham Marsh's book 'Max and the lost note'.
If I was clever enough to insert the picture of the book I would and you'd see what I mean.

Oh - I had assumed Harpo was quite consciously 'doing a Max'. Good to see that book's influence spreading far and wide. Wearing a tie to the fair - now THAT'S commitment to a look.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Everyone needs a plain white double cuff shirt anyway, might as well go for one you're happy with. They cost silly money (the best part of 200 USD) direct from Brooks so do explore those other avenues.

If the BB Malaysian/non-iron shirts are anything to go by, you'd be just as well going for a local German/Austrian make which will be made in the same factory. Nice enough but pretty soulless and a bit too slick.
