Ah, thanks. So whats the score with this line? What were its features that made it different to other BB shirts. Did the Markers range only include shirts?

Re: Ivy League style for today

Makers in suits and jackets indicated the top of the line offerings in the Men's Dept. Ties as well. All were produced in Brooks workrooms. If you continue to read through old posts or follow some of the conversations, you'll find us alluding to the old days before the cataclysm post 2000. You'll then notice that some of the posters are extremely focused on Brooks of the 40's, 50's, 60's, etc.  Each of these decades had hallmarks which defined the period.

And so it goes with shirts. You'll find shirts from 346, University Shop, Brooksgate, and the Boys' Dept...none of which carry the same cachet as the Makers line. They were lines targeted at younger demographics.

Makers shirts had a good reputation of quality fabric and construction for the money. The oxford button downs had a perfect roll to the collar. There's a lack of lining or fusing, as I stated. Pinpoints and broadcloth were good as well. These days, most shirts out of Malaysia are non-iron treated. All shirts are heavily lined or fused in the collars and cuffs.

I think I have only one Brooks shirt now that is not Makers.  I just love that red label.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Sunday morning throw it on: maroon Lacoste polo, Bean shirt jacket, patched Bean jeans, maroon Falke socks, blue canvas slip-ons.  Nothing to it, nothing at all.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I bought some Falke the other day, well impressed, probably the best socks I've ever bought. And I've bought a lot of socks.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Be careful when buying Argyle, though (should that take your fancy): they are too roughly textured to wear with loafers.  Expensive but very, very comfortable - especially when compared with something like Pantherella or the awful specimens that used to be on offer at Russell Street.

Re: Ivy League style for today

We only get Tiago and Airport, but I found them both really comfortable just in plain colours, but I will take note and avoid the argyle!

Also, keep your finger and toe nails well trimmed.  They do tear.
