They told me they were leather.

I did think it was a bit squishy.

Re: Ivy League style for today

They are a pair of RL that I got at TK MAxx and then got the leg tapered in to a 7.5 cuff, they were 8.5 but a bit flappy for me. A very fine pair of trousers with a high waist, total cost including alterations was about £55.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I see, its all cool bop which ever coast. The trousers are they J Crew ? or Crew clothing?
If they are cc i have the same pair.Their stuff was okay until the last year when quality
nose dived in my opinion. Its a shame that 99.9% of their stuff is branded.
Whats the story with the gun boats?

Re: Ivy League style for today

Well I bought the crew shorts, and the rise was 13'' and I thought I had stumbled over a gem, but the trousers are an inch less on the rise, but I do like the leg. Crew is pretty over priced for what it is, and the waistbands aren't even re-enforced, and the trousers can't be let out etc. Shame really, nearly there, but fall just short of the mark.

I spent a longtime trying to figure out what UK shoes gave the best rounded US style look, and I thought it was going to be Trickers or something, but then I put these on looked down at them and thought, yeah that is perfect. Exactly the style and shape I want, and you can find them in most decent UK shoe shops, I'm not really taken by any of Barkers offerings, but these are great for winter. They were also half-price in a clearance, so I was even happier with it all, they're normally £200.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Thanks for taking time out to answer my questions mate.
I agree with the Crew stuff nearly there, its a novelty not to taper a pair of strides though.
I was warned off of Barkers many years ago  bnever had a pair and have always been a Royal Loake man.
They look lovely though mate in my opinion and for £100 a bargain.

Re: Ivy League style for today

My arch is too high for the Loakes I've tried, there were some Loakes longwings in the shop for £30 more ie £130, not £230, but I'm not sure I like the character of Loakes. I really like Ducker and Sons but only on bigger feet, their shoes don't seem to suit small feet, but the roundness helps balance out a long foot, like the Barker do above, I have another pair of hi-shine Barkers I have to wear when I dress up in the garb to do the wedding shows, and they're aren't too bad either, out of all the shoes I own I'd say they are towards the top of the mid-range English brands. I would like to get a pair of Sanders too though, I like the shape of them very much.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I have to wear an insert when I borrow my old mans Loake Royals. I agree, they don't suit those with higher arches.

I like that look too Bop. It reminded me of that much talked about Campus image of the two dudes in buffalo check.
