Re: Ivy League style for today

Is it Ski Moc season again Moose? Those look like some serious foul weather Loafers. Bloody nice Cardi as well. Looks toasty. The shawl collar is something I'm in need of right now. I'll have a looksy at the LE ones.

Black Cat Bones- Welcome aboard. As Woolster states, that's a great pomp. That's a serious statement haircut. Nice. I also agree on the rise of the pants. The look would perhaps work better with an extra few inches rise. But it's horses for courses as always. You're miles ahead of where I was style wise at 18. I'm sure you'll pick up a lot very fast here.

BCB's look is killer! I like age appropriate ivy...as in, he can wear that today and tweed tomorrow and still be killing it. Nice thought. He has an interesting blog, too.

Spending a lot of late nights on campus in the library at the moment (Modernism won't look at itself, you know...nice art history joke for you there) so I'm all about the student scruff bag look right now...Black Shuron Freeways, Raincoat, Sero for the Crimson Shop blue oxford, edwin ed55, zero socks and white vans.

Looking good BCB.

Today, 'cos it's pissing down.
Sebago + Filson Osmore boots, tin-cloth and tan leather.
Vintage Levis 502's (pre '71 big E on tag).
Dickies white cotton tee,
Pendleton fireside shirt, Black Watch tartan,
Barracuta Ramsey raincoat.

Still feeling the dental surgery, so not going too far.

Re: Ivy League style for today

What are the 502 like Acton? I've seen them on ebay a few times but never owned any. Are they similar in cut to 60's 501's as listing measurements would suggest?

Re: Ivy League style for today

Thanks Acton. Most helpful. I was never sure about the cut. They did seem very similar to 501 from blurry ebay pics... so much so that I wondered if they were sometimes just listed incorrectly. I didn't realise they were the same exact cut except for having a zipper.

I'll keep and eye out for bargains in big E. Preworn only! I avoid 70's 501's generally. The thigh starts to get a little tight.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Liam,
The cut of the 502 remained the same as the 60's well into the 70's. They were a bit of a odd item for the time particularly as Levis were promoting the then new orange tab ranges, but they were a stock item in the military PX stores inventory so were probably kept on the books as a military order item.
I believe archeologists would term them a 'Lazarus Taxon', something from an older period existing unchanged well past their expected expiry date by odd circumstance.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Ha, yes, I spotted the womens 502 straight off the bat. Same story with the 519. Mens and womens cuts are totally different. I also noticed the AUS$ cropping up when I clicked on one pair. I'll avoid them for sure.

Levis are a minefield. I'm getting my eye in now after years of buying jeans and sta prest. It takes some getting used to.

A man after me own heart there Moose. As always, it seems!

I love that plaid on the Pen'. I'm envious of that one. Is it a vintage pattern or are they still making it, do you know?

Re: Ivy League style for today

I've got a variety bag of Monster Munch and spare bike chain, and was going to be at a loose end on Tuesday so I'm up for a rumble.

As long as I'm home by 6 for my tea.
