^ funny how I thought the same thing about the buttons Leer. I'll be visiting the local button shop for a set of nicer blazer buttons.

Just trying to decide between silver vs gold.

I might have to bring it to my tailor and see if he can make one up in wool.

Re: Ivy League style for today

This week I have mostly been wearing:-

Giro G10 ski helmet XXL size - bought many years ago over the net from Utah rather than pay UK prices. Once mostly Yanks wore them. Now Euros are doing likewise.

Bolle ski goggles with red lenses

Icebreaker New Zealand merino wool base layer. Very warm not itchy next to skin.

Columbia ski jacket. Not an upmarket brand but effective.

Alpine ski trousers with braces. Would prefer overall style salopettes for the breast pocket and the fact that the braces stay in place better.

Technica Diablo ski boots in a hideous orange colour. Not bought for looks. No choice of colour. A replacement for my old school Salomon boots - a one clip, rear entry style that is now considered infra dig. Both boots have replaceable heels and toes unlike many other expensive brands.

For evenings I had a Norwegian sweater which it was never cold enough to wear, a Lands End flannel shirt with a nice soft nap and lovely colours. Footwear was hiking boots or boat shoes from Dunns' stores in Enniskillen.

I also had a tattersall Viyella shirt - not a button down - to look like a certain type of Brit abroad. In other words, I chose to look like an old fogey to distance myself from the kidults in novelty T shirts and cargo trousers.

People are wearing cargo trousers again? The first full cycle of fashion in my lifetime I do feel old.

^ Not sure they ever went away in the UK.

I was pleased to note that the Russians on holiday wore shell suits. Shell suits are now only seen in deprived council estates in the UK.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I think after about 2001/02 the baggy skater look was on the way out which included the fashion cargo, but the tighter fir ones did remain the uniform of choice for theatre technicians I seem to remember. Preferably in black.
