What's the difference between a Topster and 49er; is it just the cuffs and lapel roll?
i seem to remember that the 49er is the women's version of the topster. there must be a thread about it somewhere on here

Topster is the mens three button, bias patch, shirt cuff jacket.
49er is a ladies four button version.
Then the Topsman that Moose posted is an unstructured jacket, non bias pocket, jacket sleeves. Shirt yoke, one piece back...
Going from memory
Pre 63 Topsters and a more pointed collar/lapel notch, post 63 they had the cloverleaf style lapel notch which is much nicer imo
Again from memory, Si can probably expand or correct

I actually see that it does have non-functioning buttons cuffs from the photo above, which is the very jacket that I own, however it's simply an aesthetic detail. It was sold as a "49er" by someone who I trust to know these things, but I suppose it registers as a Topsman then? Is the 3/2 roll forced? It seems to fall so naturally.

Oliver, that's a late 60's Topster but it looks like someone removed the cuffs judging by the arm length.
Can you do a shot of the label and ,if there are any, the washing instruction tags. I can date it a bit better.
The whole mis-naming of them as 49er's has been compounded by by eBay and Etsy sellers using it as a tag, Pendleton themselves have never called the jacket a 49er ( it's development name was 'The Playboy' ).
There's a brief history on the Pendleton blog

I think that could be a square notch topster, with the sleeves converted? The bias pockets certainly put it in Topster territory.
French Ponces..... Angry Homos......and now cross dressers.....this forum really does cater for a lot of tastes...
3 out of 3 for me so far...but appreciate the company O....
I'll still be calling em 49ers I reckon... and calling myself Penelope...naturally...
^ LOL
And what's the one with a back vent called again AB?
Chris was mentioning this is on his list last night I seem to recall...?!?
I of course was paying no attention whatsoever, making a daisy chain and writing up a quiche recipe... us girls can multi task you know....
There's two, the Blazer ( from about 66/67ish) and the Sir Pendleton (from about 62ish).
The Sir Pendleton is probably the one tho', as it has minimal lining and closest to the Topster/Topsman axis.
I don't think the sleeves were ever shortened as I took it in pretty much deadstock shape.
Very nice. Tom. All these Topsters are tops.... man.
