Re: Ivy League style for today

That would be a great look, Bop, if it weren't for those massive, distracting, horrendous, DARTS just ruining my whole f#cking day!!!

Kidding, of course.  I really don't mind them, especially on that jacket.  They're somehow easier to digest when they're on a patch blazer, especially a cord.  Just a deliciously slouchy look.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Moleskins are great...but...

• You can't wash them. At least not these, which are Lambourne. Dry clean, or in my case, I sponge them and then brush, or use one of those home methods such as Dryel. Why? Because every dry cleaner around here is a disaster.

• There are Lambourne moleskins, and there are the premium ones Orvis sells. Then there are cheaper varieties from Orvis, Lands End, which I also own. The latter are machine washable and nowhere near as sturdy. It's similar to the difference between Bill's Khakis and the thin Heritage Lighthouse Casco Bay Surfwashed Lakewashed Sunkissed Artisanal Authentic chinos that the usual suspects are always promoting. Except the cheaper moleskins are better than the truly cheap chinos.

• Moleskins get ratty fairly fast. The two pairs of Lambournes I own get babied. I only wear them for work or a dressy occasion. I do not wear them around the house.

• Moleskins are warm, but they won't save you in the dark of a Connecticut winter. I still need long johns if I am going to be outside for any length of time, or visiting in someone's drafty old farmhouse, where the authentic heritage wood stove keeps everything nice and toasty within a radius of about six inches.

• They have a feel somewhere between suede and a chamois cloth used for cleaning a gun.
