Re: Ivy League style for today

See Dom is an example of someone who posts things that are not always Ivy, but he also understands this and also understands what is and isn't ivy. What Dom just posted would have certainly been worn by someone in the period of Ivy clothing, if not by someone involved in the colleges. I don't might some diversion if its smart and is acknowledged. And Dom will always point out what is a diversion in his outfit

When I first posted on here, I was pm'd and given gentle guidance in the threads. I was keen to learn more, so I took on the criticisms I was receiving and kept my head down a little bit and read, researched and asked questions. I don't dress in the Ivy cannon at all times but when I do, I try to get the details right. Otherwise I might as well just post on another forum instead? I also wear stuff that could fit in the window of what would of been worn in the the 50s/60s (ie. like how a lot of mcqueen wore was ivy influenced but a lot wasn't), stuff like a submariners sweater, some slightly weirder Clarks, Breton sweaters, very occasional military surplus , the list could go on but it's things I don't consider suitable to document here?

Nothing personal Mercer, and for all I know you're a lovely person, but I for one am in total agreement with the above.

Yes.  Leer's cutting a dashing figure as he makes his way out into the street and into oncoming traffic.  Leer knows which way is up and I admire his ability to mix and match certain Ivy staples OUTSIDE of a strict Ivy framework.  The looks aren't always to my personal taste, but they often offer inspiration.

Re. Dom/Leer: I have given him a hard time on a number of occasions - to be fair I wasn't the only one during greyWeejungate - and I must admit the fact that he has a short temper just makes me want to wind him up constantly. However, without wishing to sound like a patronising bastard, even when he wore colours I hated he always made an effort and was clean and pressed, and nowadays his outfits are more conservative with colour so I'm starting to appreciate him. As long as he controls his taste for women's clothes, that is.

Re: Ivy League style for today

So if I don't post outfits that are completely to your liking then I'm not welcome here. Alright then. With that, all I have to say is goodbye. I thought more people here had a sense of humor about these things. I guess I was sadly mistaken.

Mercer, we, of all forums, have a sense of humor.  But we're a freaking boys' club, and clubs are, by nature, somewhat exclusive, or shall I say insular.  It's not that anyone here doesn't like you on some personal level.

Woofboxer, too late for that.

Worried Man, at no point had you ever acted like you were ready to kick me out just because I posted a few photos of me wearing boots. Sure, you ragged on me about that, but I thought it was all in fun (regardless of your personal dislike of boots). But now you've essentially said I don't fit in here. Sorry you feel that way.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I'd say Cowboy boots aren't welcome here. Otherwise you're not wearing stuff to dissimilar to what I wear ie, jeans, bds, camp mocs. I'm not sure you get the idea of the details that many like on here but if you hang about you will and if you like them then you may want to hang around.

The problem is and always will be the influx of people wanting to get into something and those that have steering them into a collective take on it, then people can throw something new into the mix and others can follow the logic and some will like it, some won't.

It's up to you what you do, and to take anything personally is a bit silly, as is to comment on people by juding what they wear. Dressing badly /unfashionably doesn't make you a twat, being a twat makes you a twat.

Everyone gets flack here...OCBD, Leer...WM and his nipple huggers. But they all did their thing and did it well...ultimately though they understood what we believe on here to be Ivy which is pretty broad..so if that still is a struggle the forums you are already on probably cater for you better.
