Re: Ivy League style for today

Tan cotton twill 3 buttons jacket (Italian, boxy, short, unpadded, unlined, raised hems, central vent); white shirt, safety pinned collar; vintage brown tie, 'a pastilles' prints in deep orange and white (Dad's heritage); wollen fresco tapered trousers in mid brown with a muted purple glenplaid, dark brown socks and oxblood loafers. Vintage shades and a brown leather vintage briefcase. Another Dad's heritage, a Wyler-Vetta watch with croc wristband worn over shirt's cuff.

Off-topic: just bought the dvd of Miles Davis' gig in Milan, 1964. On the sleeve the man wears a very interesting pinstripe suit: short (almost bumfreezer) double breasted jacket, (only one button) peaked lapels, patch pockets (all of them, including the top pocket), apparently very light waist suppression.
Remarkable.

Old basic J. Press Navy Blazer. Natural shoulders, hooked vent, 3/2 roll.
LL Bean Pale Chambray BD in honour of Drew.
White T. Hanes.
Some little-worn Olive Drab LE flatfront Chinos. They have a kinda 'Army' vibe about them to my Vodka soaked mind...
J. Press woven belt in Cordo again.
Fairmount Cordovan Pennies. They fit like slippers now.
Mid Grey plain Socks.
Basic RTL Watch (Black face) on really rather ratty Brigade of Guards Grosgrain strap from Harvard's The Crimson Shop.

The tramps down by the Embankment used to have some fantastic overcoats in '79. Really Boss Tweeds. The best of them hung out just behind The Savoy...

Style!

Re: Ivy League style for today

I think you look great, Patrick!

I think the black shoes are a nice `hard`(! lol) , manly contrast. I like em and find them quite intriguing. It looks to me (in my own opinion, if it`s worth anything) to be more of a spontaneous, refreshing and inspired combination choice than as if you really were `trying hard` as you say.

In my own opinion the black split-toe blucher shoes do go very well with everything you`re wearing. For me the black colour of the smart-casual split toes seems to give them an appearance of  being a good strong, reliable `anchor` to the lighter colours above.Maybe, speaking personally  i`d have worn the tie length just a tad longer (and i`m REALLY only talking a mere tad here.I`m feeling like i want pull the tie down just the slightest bit).

Nothing superfluous. Subtle, underplayed, classic, classy  and SMART.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Photos show how it hangs together; text is okay for people with vivid imaginations, but I need to see it.

As for faces, I show mine because I simply don't give a damn. If someone wants to steal my identity they're welcome to it. I could use a new one.

Good call Patrick. With head, without head it is up to the individual. Words are good to! There should be no rules.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I can enjoy the visual impact of seeing posters wearing their said ensembles.I don`t think it`d ever be for me personally but i do think and agree that it can bring all the descriptive text to life and personally speaking i don`t find it objectionable.

I think it definately takes a bit of bravery to put yourself and your choices on the line like that.
I like to see all sorts of posted pics on this forum and would find the forum dryer and perhaps less entertaining without any visual stimulus.
