Re: Ivy League style for today

They are much lighter than they looked in any pics I've seen. I thought LVC Bedfords this season had a higher rise, but I've only tried one pair and they were fine in the waist/ rise, but too tight on the thigh and it didn't look like the type of cloth that would stretch?

I think Bedford cord wasn't exclusive to Levis but I could be wrong, let me see if I can find some sources on that?

Thanks Tommy!

I'd love to get a breakdown comparison on the Yellow Rats versus original LVC reish in terms of quality and fit.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Thanks man! I was right, you do look hip as always in them, but I think it's the dark khaki colour and stitch that kills it for me; they're just too close to chinos. I'm really after a pair of lightweight stone colourd 5-p's.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Man I'm terrible, I just took a plunge on the yellow rats even though the specs aren't ideal for me. I'm flying down south in a week and impulsively decided I need new five pockets when getting dressed for work this morning. It was one of those days where none of my clothes seemed to work out and I switched outfits three or four times growing aggravated that I couldn't nail the look I wanted. I'm just gonna try the yellow rats out around the pad and if I don't dig 'em, they're going back. I think they're SoCal based (San Diego?) so I should have them early next week. I'll post pics/review for the curious.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Now I'm wondering if I should've just ordered the 33's with the 11" rise and had the waist taken in and ankles tapered to match the 32's in all other specs.

Well, erm.... good luck?  The Hertlings are rather plain old khaki in color and feel.  You need some elusive "other".  Hope you can find it.  I'm at a loss brother.

Re: Ivy League style for today

It is one of our most difficult areas to cover. I was not impressed by the Bedford's I got, but they were a 34/34 (which I think only has 11" rise this season... they were in a decent sale but too long even at 31.5 legs), I may try a 36/32 (supposedly at 12" rise) and have the waist taken in? I got my Hertlings at a Steal off a member on here (who got them from the great ll bean sale) and they're great trousers minus the contrast stitching.

I did as a recent compromise/ experiment/ impending disaster buy a couple of pairs of Levis in a vintage sale (£20 for the pair) based on colour and rise alone- I'll let you know which way it goes, but I suspect the seamstress will only be able to do so much?

Thanks fellas!

Tommy, which bedfords were you not impressed by, the Yellow Rats or recent LVC offerings?

Re: Ivy League style for today

Maybe we should start a petition to LVC, "Raise our Rises, don't lower your standards" ?

If it's a success you can all get together to buy me a pair in the grey/ swamp colour and a navy pair too!

Re: Ivy League style for today

I lucked out on vintage olive Levis in deadstock recently on the etsy. Genuine early 60s but in a 33 waist so they'll need a slight pinch at the tailor. Stone five e pockets are the final frontier for me. I've called Yellow Rat several times to ask questions but they aren't answering; sounds like they're a real homemade/basement operation.

Ps - Tommy, see my question above.

Alright, looks like I'm the guinea pig. I'll start a new thread in a few days to let everyone know the score.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Update: just got a callback from Yellow Rat! Super nice guy and Japanese - no surprise! smile

The only difference btwn 32 & 33 is the waist and ankle width. Same inseam and outseam. The rise is half an inch higher though. I'm gonna try out the 32s (he assures me they're the same exact specs as pre-64 Levis which he based them on) and may end up exchanging for the 33's if I'm not happy with the cut. I'd just gently taper the ankle back up to 7 1/4 from 8 and nip the waist. We shall see... They ship tomorrow.

God bless American obsessed Japanese clothes guys!

That jackets a beaut captain - I'm not really a leather jacket fan unless it's in that kind of style (Real McCoys have some beauties that have been discussed elsewhere )
I like the side adjustment on that - nice fit.

I saw the Goodwear T's in John Simons - my god those things are thick aren't they - they make Hanes look like tissue paper.

How do they get on after a few washes ?

Re: Ivy League style for today

Why thank you MM..Yep, Real Macs have a lot of v nice stuff indeed but very pricey and unsure of the fits tbh...
(I may actually stroll down there lunchtime again to see what they've got in - I've yet to buy anything from them tbh tho' there's obviously loads that appeals...)
Even Eastman for example come up ridiculously small from what I've tried so wouldn't know what to buy online...

This one I've on is American Classics take on them...and a solid 44 which is my usual size in G-1's/A-2s/A-1s etc.
It's a work of art I have to say as far as I'm concerned.. shoulda snapped the wool lining etc.

Meanwhile, the Goodwear's reign supreme fella...wash excellently..and yep, wondrously thick..I love a pocket too so really hope John continues to do em as it's a bit of a saga going directly to em Stateside via Bongo n all that...
The best white T since the old Hanes of the red tag some years back...

I may pick up their grey sweat too...v reasonably priced for a Made in USA job..and the cuffs/hem were supoib...

I'd dive in fella...
