Re: Ivy League style for today

Thank you lads.

Tomorrow I have an interview and will be breaking out a navy hopsack with brass buttons a la OCBD above, which I am looking forward to. Shaving though…I am not looking forward to at all.

That's great chief, right up my street - but what the hell do you think you're playing at with that top button!?!

Re: Ivy League style for today

Plenty of Boom years pictures, particularly on the jazz side of things with a 3 buttoned jacket with top 2 buttoned,  instead of rolled?

Re: Ivy League style for today

Are you sure they weren't genuine three button jackets.

As you can see from the chiefs pictures a 3/2 doesn't button up correctly.

Re: Ivy League style for today

There is something weird in the second pic,  although it could just be cos he's stretching to take the picture?

Re: Ivy League style for today

You dont see the weirdness in pic 3 because he has flipped the lapels.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Point taken, though have seen a few of the summer keydge ones look fine on 3 buttons,  rather than a 3/2 roll,  maybe the courdory one's are made more specifically to be 3/2s.

I am aware that jackets were made specifically to be 3/2s on the past,  you can certainly tell when a jacket has simply been pressed into one instead when they're vintage.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Whoah Nelly, whoah…! I often do the top button up for protection. It's a jungle out there lads… and sometimes its a little chilly in the jungle.

I agree that this corduroy Keydge is designed to roll to button 2. You can play around a little with the top button to get it to sit a little better but who has that kind of time on their hands? Not me, I am afraid. Pop the collar, I say, and let them know you're coming! Give them fair warning, lock up your wives; there's an Ivyist pretender on the prowl.

I am clean shaven now ( thank you Woof ) and ready to rock and 3/2 roll tomorrow.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I thought the classic nonchalent look for a 3/2 jacket was top two fastened, bottom one undone?

Personally I find the top button on many 3/2 jackets doesn't sit that well when fastened, so maybe they are just meant for ornamentation? What the hell, wear them any damn way you please!

Re: Ivy League style for today

I was going to question the top button being done up, particularly in the second photo. However, Chief pulls it off in the third photo, with collar up. I wouldn't advise the look for an interview, though.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I thought the top button dropped to make a 3/2 when the jacket's canvas got sloppy, or at least it was this way in the beginning?
