I notice that the cult Ivy style classic Steve McQueen's 'Love With The Proper Stranger' has been put on YouTube now in installments by some kind soul. It starts here:

Enjoy!
Feel free to add other Classic Traditional American style films here too -
Need time to ferret out a clip, but Richard Benjamin sports a great summer Ivy wardrobe in Goodbye, Columbus (1969)
John Cassavetes in Rosemary's Baby is an image I keep in mind when getting dressed--I think he's perfect in this movie, particularly in the first scene: chambray jacket, white BD, knit tie, khaki chinos, and bucks or desert boots, can't tell. I steal this outfit all the time in summer.

"A Beautiful Mind", check the product credits at the end. Right place, right time. I noticed some continuity flaws, but I enjoyed it.
John Nash rules OK.

A lot of the Rock Hudson movies have great Ivy wardrobes. That one where he "pays it forward" favor for favor is a rotten movie but a great clothes source. A lot of the clothes in his movies are normally fitted Thom Browne items with the mismatched greys as for pants and jacket.
"The Long Hot Summer" also had a pretty good ivy wardrobe, if i remember right.

Okay, I'm not going to pretend that this is an Ivy or Trad or whatever film list. It is, however, a list of film that a) I enjoy and b) I find somewhat inspirational in terms of style of dress. I'm excluding films that have already been mentioned in this thread. I happen to think these fit my aesthetic (in general) and the kinds of things we like to talk about. That being said, the list...

"Summer of 42"
I wanted to do an own thread on "Ivy Icons" starting with movie stars Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Warren Beatty, Cary Grant et al......... One of my faves is also LEE "GOD" MARVIN! Maybe he isn't always Ivy or Trad, but he is genuine American COOL... think of Point Blank or for starters:
From "The Killers" by Don Siegel:

Notice also the amazingly beautiful Angie Dickinson and a later US Pres...It is also based on a short short story by Hemingway...
That's a very entertaining movie with an interesting history. Reagan forever after disowned it, having regretted playing a distasteful villain. It was his last role, and the only time he ever played the heavy onscreen. It went against his nature.
Some nice Ivy-esque looks from Michael Caine, one of my very favorite 60s cinema icons

Mr. Marvin in 'M Squad' had a great All American look - So much so that older friends of mine in London still call really heavy US style Longwings "Ballinger Brogues".

You really ought to do that thread - Or a thread on each even. There is so much material that we haven't looked at yet.
Best -

Really great list - Ivy? Trad? Just focus on Classic Traditional American style and look at the wealth of inspiration you can draw on.
Always good to find a fellow SBOY fan - The first film where the clothes really stood out for me:

... Yet more pics from the Brownshoe family album I see! ![]()
Lovely stuff - Thanks.
Read the book not too long ago and liked it a lot. The film should be interesting clothes-wise as well :

Guarantee of a half sleeve Madras in every episode. Easy to spot even on 405 lines in black and white.

Best scene of interest is for Take Ivy is when McNamara is going to get Otto Piffl dressed very well for his mother in law...
I love that movie! You could easily say it's just some big cola commercial and it's a shameless US propaganda flic, but it's damn funny... although there's no Jack Lemmon...
Was watching Dirty Harry last night. I thought a few of Mr Eastwoods outfits looked quite smart.
