OUR team is out & about!
http://men.style.com/news/blog/2008/10/ … f-the.html
Just popped the question to Dean Rudland...
We have some great input coming from Neil Henderson...
John Gall is updating the J. Simons site including new stuff from The Team...
Our Author is going great guns...
... It's happening!
Now you'll either dig this or you won't:
"Hi Jim
great to hear from you. I been following the Ivy thread on mod culture with interest and detouring into the the various other branches as links appeared. In fact I read the first 40 pages whilst watching Steve McQueen in Thomas Crown Affair on Channel 4 a few Saturdays back. Very enjoyable.
... ... ... ...
Put me down for whatever it is you are working on here, there is not enough good jazz stuff these days and a connecting force is much needed. Please keep me informed.
... ... ... ...
Best
Dean"
Dean Rudland is in!
The quality we're pulling together now is amazing. Dean who bought his Weejuns from John Simons back in the day?
Wonderful.
You all ought to have a drink tonight to celebrate this!

Alright fellas?
Nice & slim & narrow is what I'm after, I'm talking jeans here. I've been looking to get a pair of Levis with a narrow hem (7.5 inches). I've seen a pair of 505 1967 Slim-Fits that look good on the site, but I recently bought a pair of 505 cords that aren't really slim enough on me. I've also found some 501XX 1947s that look slim, but not sure if they are slim enough as I've only seen them on-line.
Any recommendations fellas?
I hope this will help :

There's a separate jeans/cords section, tried to post a direct link but failed somehow...

Alex, you dig around a lot, do you know anything about Don Richards? I figure it was a brand name rather than an actual guy, but I don't know for sure.

Sorry mate, never heard of either the brand or the guy.

As a complete newbie to London: Any idea on where to get a decent shetland sweater? I don't think I saw any at J. Simons'...
Wish I knew too.
Anderson's are knitting me one due to arrive in a few weeks -I'll report back.
In London Shets. used to be easy to get: Westerway/Westaway, Sam Fisher, Peter Jones, even...

Only to say that off 'till 11/03, or if you're English 03/11.

Still in Wales as none of us can face another 4 hours in the car to get home just yet...
A little help for the Modculture Ivy Guys?
1) Weejuns in an EEE (3E) fitting? Where to get & do they exist?
2) Atlas Shirts? Who knows what?
3) Argyles other than Burlingtons - Who do you rate & why?
Ta!
Jim
Does anybody know where to get old/vintage college scarves? My Uni of London college currently exhibits some of the old ones and they look so much better than the current ones...

An Update!
1) The Bass Beefroll in EE fits those who were looking for an EEE Penny Weejun.
2) They started in the 40's & have a website, beyond that nobody has much to say - Yet. Their vintage & their current items have an appreciative following.
3) Like the Hanes Beefy T., the Burlington Argyle still seems to be top of the pops - So far.
More news as it breaks!

Unfortunately not in LSE-colors...well I guess that means thrifting + being lucky

For bright OTC argyles at a good price, take a gander at the ladies' sock department. Seriously.

Why not try that old English maker for a new one. Haven't they been making them for about 150 years? Luke Eyres, maybe?
Help a friend in need?
"Hi,
spoke to you a while back about weejuns, and got hold of a pair, great shoe.
However, I'm unsure about how tight fitting they should be - the right foot fits incerdibly well, no issue at all. My left foot there is little space towards the end of the shoe in length.
I have a pair of cheap penny loafers I used to wear and they are the same size length ways and they fit fine.
Had a google search but couldn't come up with a definitive answer, therefore, how much room would you suggest that I should have on my weejuns?
I tried the next size up, but have to wear 2 insoles to get anywhere near a comfortable fit.
They seem to have softened a bit, but at first they were causing my feet to get rubbed red raw when new.
I really don't want to give up on the shoe.
Cheers for any help,
And then:
"Hi,
thanks for the reply. I meant half size, rather than size. Still pretty big.
I think the little and often way is the way to go.
By the way, the thing which I'm a bit disappointe d about is the shine of the leather. Looks a little plasticy I suppose.
Reckon there is any way of removing the shine a little whilst darkening them in colour a tad?
The author is a realy nice guy so any help would be nice.
Jim.
We are family.

Rubbing alcohol, Scotch-Brite pad (multi-purpose), leather conditioner (optional; e.g., Leather Balm), then polish to suit (I prefer Meltonian creme, dark brown, which comes closest to the old Weejun N734).
There are scads of posts on this topic over on AAAT.
^ Thanks, Mr. T. I've passed this on.
Best -
Very very nice.
... But this remains my Overcoat Hero on the left:

Can you describe what distinguishes it? I can't really tell from the picture.
I think it's a few sizes too big. When you watch the films he seems to be moving around inside this great bell of Tweed. I'm a fan.
