( ^ Nice big pic down the bottom)

Desirable because less obvious. Just in the same way that a G4 is when compared to a G9.

Re: Ivy Icon: The Kenwood.

I bought a pair in burgundy a while back. Here is my post with pics: http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showpost.php?p=730894&postcount=18
I think they're discontinued - I had AE ship them to me from one of their clearance outlets.

The corrected grain leather is fairly stiff on these. I became impatient with the stiff leather conforming to my feet so I filled the shoes with hot tap water and then wore them around the house for a while - problem solved - they look better now too, not so fake shiny.

They are unlined and there is no padding in the front half of the shoe.  I had to remove the padding from the back too as the arch support was too much for my foot.  The vamp is fairly high.  They remind me of my old J&M skimocs in fit and quality - better than Bass, worse than Alden or the better AE. Also seems that AE is using cheap soles as they're wearing quickly. Worth about what I paid.

Yes, they belong in the middle somewhere. Still easily available in London, btw.

Best -

Yes. Same experience here, although I purchase and 11E thinking Wide, but must be the Euro E width, being medium. Way too tight. Seem like beatiful shoos, and I do love the shape. Wish I could find something similar. Isnt it a shame that the simple stuff is going away.

Wearing my Kennys today.

You?

Don't think that Mr. Rushton stocks them. Maybe he might like to in the future?

Krantz has them - The last Ivy place in London still going since the 60's!

(Now there's a thought!)

Re: Ivy Icon: The Kenwood.

Allen Edmonds has had so many UK distributors in the last 20 years, all of them giving up at some point due to pressure from AE to sell more in country where few people spend money of goodyear welted shoes (and where we still have great makers who sell for less) and the cost of import/duties/store margins etc.

Shame. At least they are having some success with LE Canvas now. But like Bass and the original weejun they have kind of killed off many of their golden geese.
