So, I returned from my weekend abroad.
Is there still interest in limited run of TI belt? How would it be possible to give it an TI twist?
I thought about it and throw in my first idea: green webbing (Ivy is green) with burgundy leather. Eight holes, that would be subtle. Maybe a bit too subtle.
The main colours in question are red, green, blue, orange and navy, as far as I can see it.
Well, I'm still in!
Re Ivy Green - great idea! What about bottle green leather + a nickel buckle. I've certainly never seen a belt made with that combination before, would be safe to say it would be a unique FNB combination I think

The woven leather belts were popular when I was growing up in the late 80s-90s (mid-atlantic us) before fading. I bought this one last year because it threw me back. Very nice belt in all ways, I like the d-ring type for this style.

Re: the custom surcingles, they look really nice. I'm not the biggest fan of the leather portion of the standard J Press version, I think those are made by leatherman? Nice looking leathers, always look good to me with any kind of brown at the buckle, I wonder how they would look with a blue or green leather portion... maybe blue leather with a red w. blue stripe? Since it's a sporty belt I think it could look different and cool.
It IS all a mix & I was over-simplifying to make a point. Your post was better than mine!
It amazes me what a discussion about a striped belt can evoke. To me it is a belt.
I don't know about trad and I could not care less about it. This whole politics about it and politsprech is very complicated and honestly beyond me and no interest to me either. What was said in the last posts about the origins of the style is obvious and clear. Besides that I wonder if there would be so much interest in the style if it was been known as the "security guard style" or "chauffeur style". Its origins add a certain flair, no?
And no, I don't want people to think I have anything to do with an American university. This would be ridiculous. It is an clothing style I like and feel comfortable with. Simple. Functional. Informal dressed up a bit. Formal dressed down. No frills. Timeless. That's it.
Charlie, I overspend my budget for this month but will get in contact with you next month via PM or your website about a belt for me. I have use for one.
As an aside, I'm expecting some rather nice London Tan bridle leather in the next couple of days if anyone is interested..
The leather belts look better than the fabric and leather to my mind.
I am never sure what width a standard belt should be though for a pair trousers that have a crease in them as opposed to jeans etc.. Adding two inches to waist measurement simplifies the length aspect
Just received a belt from Equus. Very nice it is too.
All leather - Australian nut with a brass buckle.
A benefit of reading the forums. I had never really considered belts much but Marc Grayson, an American, posted about them. Many Brits on here would never have heard of them. My thanks go to Mr. G.
Compare prices and Equus are definitely a bargain. I will probably get a tan and a black one now. You do have to wait but I am pleased with my purchase and happy to Buy British too.
The surcingle stuff and the striped watch bands leave me cold. Why bother with that when you can have top quality leather? I had a striped watch band in my early teens and an elasticated striped snake belt at primary school(yes I do know the difference between those and surcingle).
I'm waiting for mine to turn up - I've gone blue/red stripe surcingle with Australian Nut leather. Very reasonable for a hand-made belt, I think.
I think a surcingle makes a nice change, and looks good in a casual context, nice with light coloured trousers - still like all leather belts too (you can have both!).
Funnily enough, I've just received in the post today two Canterbury woven leather belts, in black and brown - very pleased with them I am too.
I like strped g10 nato straps first aesthetically, secondly because leather starts to rot and smell with continued wear.
The beauty of said strap is, you can wash and change it everyday.
plus you can get leather ones if you so desire.
