Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Not sure but it looks post-'90s to me.

Definitely post 1890s.

El score-o grande!

Look for a union tag in the inside pocket.  That will help with a date range.

Definitely. Do it and I will take a look into my "Dandy Guide to Dating Vintage Menswear". Great information in there, simply great. I suppose 80s, too.

P.S.: I am interested especially in the union tag of the one with the navy label as my own Brookslinen sack jacket hast the same label but the union tag is cut off, so it is impossible to date it. I suppose mine is from the 80s. Lapel width is the same as on your suits smile

Yes.  Leer seems to be on the right track.  I have a Brookslinen with that tag and the union label, although really faded, appears to be late '70s - '80s.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

That's no earlier than the late '70s.  I think 1976, to be exact.  Used up into the '80s.  But this isn't definitive.  Take everything I say with a grain of salt. smile

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Ok, sorry... no information on that kind of union tags. It seems that the info in the book goes up to the 70s but no further sad

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Ok, the khaki suit has no tag whatsoever. The numbers on the navy wash and wear tag pictured above, if it helps: 6436504 44r-39 (not sure about the last numbers)

For the Makers tag: ABA 18735.  There's no BB labels on the inside nor does that back label say "tailored in the USA" Didn't BB start having to identify their Makers line as USA made in the mid to late 90's?

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

I've seen tags hidden inside the hip pockets as well.

Nah, sorry - can't find it at the moment, only find information on codes beginning with "S". If I get to know about it I will tell on here smile

Great insight Ox. A telling excerpt.  A similar story to that of Atkinson's of Pasadena that I posted about a few weeks ago.  Seems the '80s - '90s found many great traditional, long-standing, dedicated, local menswear shops closing their doors.
