Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

^ good news on Aero, only bought jeans/chinos from them in the past but I've heard nothing but good things about them leather repair wise.
Eastmans might be added to my 'avoid' list then (never been a fan of their 'bullets and bombs' imagery on the website).
The Dustbowl people are in the USA on a buying trip at the mo' hence the 'out of office' reply I got yesterday.

The moths are behind you looking at these pictures, and their little mothy mouths are watering in anticipation of this latest addition to the smorgasbord.

Sorry, I'll stop joking about your plight.  I know it's a real problem.  I would be livid and breaking into cold sweats.  I think I've probably just been lucky that the same thing hasn't happened to me... yet.

I employ both methods.  Also drink helps.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Whod've thunk that Botany 500 belonged to a man who drove a truck long distance for over 30 years...

Youngest of three brothers, grew up in a VA company town. Left high school to join the Navy. Came home and went to work for GM in Detroit. Eventually moved back to VA and got married. Drove a truck long distance for over 30 years and eventually became a Baptist deacon. Loved clothes and cared for them meticulously. Had a quad bypass at age 59 and wore this jacket to the hosptial. His son took it out of his hospital closet and wore it around town while he was in surgery. Now he has alzheimer's and is in a nursing home.

Just goes to show the irony of revisionist idealism we place on a lot of these duds with the whole college boy jazzbo angle. I'm gonna start inquiring about all articles I get from firsthand sellers from now on. I love this kind of stuff.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

See, this back's up my theory that the style was wide-reaching and permeated the entire fabric of America during the heyday.  Sure, it's not J. Press or Brooks or Paul Stewart, but it's the STYLE.  I've never bought into the "college jazzbo angle" or the elitist angle.

That's a nice find! I really wish I could find a nice pair of five-pockets. The few I have have too small of a rise.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Any chance I could get one of the Pocket cards off you Colin for my collection? Sad graphic designer who loves old tags etc.

The look like they could be pretty cool trousers.

That's reassuring. Not too hot/itchy I hope?

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

No, very comfortable.

One pair of deadstock I got, some Mr Leggs (of the famous sexist advertising) are a bit itchy - they're a weird mix of something that's "baked" though! But the nylon-cotton ones (which look similar in cut to the ones on your label) are very comfy, like a good blend of polly-cotton.

15 pairs of NOS US Army surplus underpants scooped for $20 on the bay this morning. Still in the packets and have never seen action. My needs in the gruntie dept taken care of for some time.
