Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Was it John Minor who retired?

I've tried out half a dozen tailors in this city before finally settling with Franz on Geary.

He's exorbitantly overpriced and I guess he doesn't like to pay the Feds because he deals in cash only. I'm very selective about what I take to him. That said, he's a true professional and cuts cloth cleaner than anyone I've yet experienced. He charged me an outrageous $90/pants for finishing (hem, cuff, occasionally slight taper) but I've yet to see such perfect craftsmanship. Avoid if cost is prohibitive, otherwise use him wisely for the right kind of work on specific articles and you'll be very satisfied. If you need more info, shoot me an email and I'll be glad to divulge.

Can never have too many pairs of loafers, unless you're Yuca.  Those are real fine lookin'.

Oh what great find, very envious of you. I Do like Dexter shoes and got hold of some dead stock beefrolls a while back, very impressed with them too.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

I recently got rid of my Dexters.
Most solid pair of shoes I have ever owned I think.
Absolutely no give at all.

Shame because they really are a nice shoe.

Aye caramba!!! If you decide to wear these or even if not, would love scans of the tags? Stunned - never seen a pair of these ever!

That's real nice.  Must have been in the NOS section?

Yeah it's been in there a while. I love the leather football buttons and ragalan sleeve saddle shoulder details.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Looks brand new to me, Chet. They sell those at Cable Car, O'Connell's, etc. I have a handful but find the s-m-l sizing a bit erratic. The mediums feel about half a size too large at the collars and cuffs. Otherwise they're very nice and well made shirts. It's a shame they aren't properly fitted.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Thanks Oli.  I'm not keen on alpha sizing either, but I got it at a good price so it won't be a total disaster if it isn't a good fit.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Speaking of O'Connels, got a bay watch on one of their Lucas Chelf blazers which has lovely 3/2 roll, hook vent and welted seams, but the cuffs are single football button and the elbows have patches - trying to work out if these are original or added because of damage, seller doesn't say not seems to know when I have asked.

Anyone aux fait with their goods enough to know if these are actually finishes or alterations?

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Sounds original if paired with leather buttons, you can always email O'C to check.
