Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

A crisp white oxford with the green blazer but I'm still trying to pull together other options for that jacket... madras bowtie maybe... I guess it could be more versatile with no tie and unbuttoned shirt. I've got an old '50s pale yellow Brooks Makers that I could pull off.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

The sport coat / blazer sans tie is practically my signature look at this point.  I never wear a tie.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

I guess it makes more sense for a tropical weight sack like this to be worn with an open shirt and oyster coloured chinos or something but I'm really hung on ties and always feel underdressed without one if I'm at a nice restaurant or bar.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Do you wear ties in the evening?

It probably feels more natural and sensible in the deep south to go sans tie than it does on this coast, especially with the sweltering summers you have to endure.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Well, so I do occasionally wear a tie, of course.  Never say never.  I wear a tie if I'm going out to a nice restaurant or if I play a gig in a suit.  Or for instance, I wore a tie the night we went out to dinner and then saw Breakfast at Sir Winston Churchills Flem spoon.'s.  And yes, on a sweltering Georgia summer day where you have 80% humidity and it's also 98 degrees outside, having a tie and a collar up around your neck can get pretty uncomfortable, especially under a jacket.  There are days when I just cave to whimsy and wear a tie just because I feel like it, but those are rather rare.  I keep telling myself I need to start wearing one more often, just to be able to take pleasure in the simple act of wearing a tie.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Wore a tie tonight at a lecture down the V&A, along with my squire shop tweed sack, a gant oxford popover, Halrin stone slim fit slacks and Sportocasins. Alas no picture and now sat in comfort wear after a dirty bacon, chips, salad a couple of pints of Camden pale ale and a slice of apple pie from Dirty Burger.

In airport on cell phone but very excited about this, $9.99

Looks like it could be a deadstock 50's Stinchfields sack, just days after posting about one in the eBay thread!

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Those are nice shoes! But I don't have the cash for them right now.

YSR, that's quite a steal for $9. I live for the moments when I find deals like that. Probably my best thrift store find was actually before I even realized "TNSIL" was a thing. A flawless Brooks 346 navy sack suit. Unfortunately it's a 39 and I'm not as small as when I got it (I was still in high school at the time), but for now it still fits well enough. Thing of beauty, even though I rarely wear suits.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Young Sole Rebel is on the move and I'm sure he'll post info if he doesn't bag them first. If I happen by before he does (unlikely before the weekend) I'll definitely let you know the size.
